I went to install the latest and greatest cacti and found that no matter how loosely I did the configuration (i.e. using root for everything) I kept getting this error when trying to access the install page even though I had already run the *exact* command and already granted all to root, root@local...

This is probably too late for you yoas, but hope this helps some others Solaris10 comes with the sun version of net-snmp by default you don't need to install it, you just need to enable it. just an FYI, its version 5.0.9 (end of lifed code) and doesn't support 64-bit counters. not sure about you, b...

even though this is very old, I figured I would post an answer since I hate searching, and finding dead ends.

The lines you put on your snmpd.conf all have the pound(#) sign in front of them, which signifys the beginning of a comment, and is ignored when the config is parsed.
