For all the non-staff, everyone seems to be listed as some sort of cruncer. At first I thought it referred to the ammount of work contributed to the project. I checked some scores...and that doesn't hold up. I am guessing now that it is the number of posts, but have no way to verify that. Can someone please post the scale? TIA!

Hello zombie67,
I think that we are still using the same number of posts for titles as came by default with the forum software. See Help. We changed the titles, which began with Stranger, progressed to Newbie, etc. Lawrence |

What is meant by the differences in titles, and how are they awarded? ![]() ![]() |

No the idea is, that the more (valuable) posts u make on the forum, the more respect u earn. Switching on a PC and showing off time whilst sitting on the behind can be checked and compared at the Global, Team and Individual stats and bragging factors that can be added to the forum signature like many have, like me below :o

Nobody has ever made "Ace Cruncher", and, as far as I know, most people have been offered "Community Advisor" long before they reached "Master Cruncher".

Switching on a PC and showing off time whilst sitting on the behind can be checked and compared at the Global, Team and Individual stats and bragging factors that can be added to the forum signature like many have, like me below :o Sek: I read this post some weeks ago, and have been mulling it over since then. I don't agree with the titles being assigned to users based on the number of postings made in these forums. If they are indeed based on the raw count of postings, and not helpfulness or content (which are subjective and not something a computer can evaluate), then people should just sit in the TEAM or CHAT ROOM areas and post away with useless tripe. That will certainly push up the numbers. Respect is earned over time, but these titles are simply assigned. Your statement about "sitting on the behind" I found particularly offensive. Those that only have a few machines maybe can do so but those of us that manage many dozen can't do that. I find my PC's require daily attention, almost like children. I take a vested interest in the projects I get involved in. The website I setup and maintain, with the level of UD details and soon to contain BOINC details also won't be counted towards my "experience" level. Personally, to make things fair, I think the rating should be based on a formula based on raw WCG stats: time registered, time active, overall points count, # of valid results, etc, and some measure of value given from the community advisors base on the individuals posting quality, helpfulness and professionalism. |

The "title" feature is just something that came with the forum software. Please don't attach too much importance to it.
For real statistics, there are all the many pages of statistics on this site, the sigboxes, and all the 3rd party statistics sites. The title feature is useful for showing special titles such as admins, techs and scientists, and giving a quick indication of whether someone is active on the forums or not. Beyond that, the titles have little meaning. |
