Hi. Could you, please, help me. Where can i find server status page?
For example, now my UD agent cannot download new unit, so, i'd want to check that the server is running and has units for downloading. Thanks. |

There isn't one. WCG maintains a very high uptime on their servers, and if you can't get work it is very rarely a server issue.
Which projects have you enabled? Only a limited amount of work is available for HDC, so if you have only selected that project, you may not always get work. |

For now, i just signed for HDC, so seems not enough workunits at the moment.
I agree that uptime is very hight really, and i think we all appreciate it, but anyway, server status page can be usefull. Thank you. |

Several posts here on the forum provide link to external services monitoring of all the DC projects like: http://boincprojectstatus.ath.cx/ . We're at 99.85% presently. Yesterday 99.91%.... small hick up this morning, when all / most crunchers were still eyes shut. Still best of all the large DC's.
----------------------------------------There's plenty work for all projects. By ticking the 'alternate work' box in the BOiNC project options here at bottom and having for instance Help Defeat Cancer (HDC) as prime participation, this option ensures that other sciences will fill in if HDC runs temporarily low. cheers

Still, it's high on the "most requested" list.

Finally, i found the problem. I had created 'home' profile for UD agent and by default 'hard disk space' was set to 50M.
I think, it doesn't allow to run any of projects that i signed for (hpf2, hdc). As soon as i set space to 1GB, server sent me a workunit. So, lessons learnt: 1) I would be good if 'default space' will be increased. Even better if there will be a help about minimal value for every project. 2) Message "see /cause.html" is really USELESS. Thanks for attention. |

Follow the System Requirement page. HDC requires 2 GB disk-space to be save! This goes particularly for multi-core machines!
----------------------------------------Think the default is actually 0.98gb, but could be mistaken. Just created a new profile, which copied the settings from the Default profile, which in mine is 10gb. Correction, that's BOiNC... indeed the UD Agent new profile seems to default to 50mb....replicated the observation. Will report this to the techs in the UD Agent Support Forum. On the UD Agent error messages and their insufficiency...... that's a know case. UD agent is not owned by WCG, rather obtained from a 3rd party. Don't expect for that to improve anytime soon. The BOiNC agent messaging and error logging is vastly superior. cheers Edited grammar and added observation.

Thank you!
One question, a little bit offtopic for this thread... Is the size of workunit for BOINC approximately (500k - 1.5M) the same that for UD? I asked, because some time ago i tryed to switch to the BOINC and seems the workunit size was much bigger. It is important for me as i'm a dial-up user. Thank you in advance. |

Hi SergK
----------------------------------------From observations, the sizes of disk storage and RAM use during computation is virtually identical UD v.v. BOiNC. cheers

Hello SergK,
One question, a little bit offtopic for this thread... Is the size of workunit for BOINC approximately (500k - 1.5M) the same that for UD? I asked, because some time ago i tryed to switch to the BOINC and seems the workunit size was much bigger. It is important for me as i'm a dial-up user. Thank you in advance. UD compresses both downloads and uploads. BOINC 5.4+ allows this also, but does not require it. We are compressing the new Genome Comparison project, which requires an up-to-date BOINC client to run. Earlier projects require more communication bandwidth for the BOINC version than the UD version requires. The size difference varies from project to project. Lawrence |
