Hello all,
I just installed the client, and I'm baffled by the BOINCManager versus the screensaver. I can't find any explanation of what I should be running, and neither the manager nor the screensaver show any feedback graphics of what's going on. The only changing items are in the manager, and I'm not sure if it's good or bad. Are there and FAQ's to set expectations on this stuff? Pointers or help appreciated, Markie |

I neglected to state that I'm using the Mac client. Apologies for that.

Hello
I've also installed BOINC on my iMac (a week ago), the screen saver does not work for me I think , so I'm running the manager. The changing items in the manager mean that your Mac is crunshing, so that's normal and good Here is a good link I think : http://boinc-wiki.ath.cx/index.php?title=Main_Pages Perhaps more experienced people could give us more details Nass |

Hello, hopefully a Mac expert hops along but to kick u off, there's lots to be found thru the big search engines:
----------------------------------------1. The place to get latest official software for Mac: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php 2. The Official BOINC install for Mac: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/mac_advanced.php & http://boinc.berkeley.edu/mac_intel.php 3. Some Helpful hints on the WCG pages: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewSearch.do?searchString=mac 4. Some instructions for Mac Administrators: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/mac_admin_tools.php From what i read, Macs crush work units at an extremely impressive pace.... will get one myself soon. cheers

Hello MarkieCNL2 and nasselch,
We are still working our way into providing graphics for BOINC. We have been running Beta tests on the BOINC graphics for Windows, improving our first attempt to get it right. I do not have a Mac, but as far as I know we have not deployed the graphics for it at all. I believe that they are still running just on the internal Beta Macs. When they are deployed, you can bring up the BOINC Manager, select the TASKS tab, select the work unit that is running, then click on Show Graphics. Lawrence |

Thanks for the input everyone.
I actually tried the BOIC pages prior to posting. Mac is seriously ignored, even on the pages devoted to it The main thing I wasn't understanding was the tasks needed to actually run the project(s). It appears that I have to leave the manager running all the time. Screensaver isn't implemented on the Mac (and as noted by someone would just eat cycles anyway). Is there any way to select a particular project/task/whatever-you-call-it, or is the work being done just on a random thing? I don't see a list of available projects or anything, but when I signed up there were several listed as being current. Thanks, Markie |

To specify which WCG projects (FAAH, HDC, HPF2 shortly), go to https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/processMyProjects.do
----------------------------------------If you don't run all projects, check the box to take work from whatever project has it if the ones you have selected have no work. I don't have a Mac but basically Boincmgr should be a GUI interface. The Boinc executable is what runs the science app on each WU. To understand more about Boincmgr, try the BOINC Forum in the MOT team forum. If you really want to get into detail, you want to look at the BOINC Wiki Sek's links in his post above should also be helpful for MAC specific info. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by keithhenry at Nov 9, 2006 12:00:22 AM] |

If keithhenry's link to My Projects doesn't work, try this one: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewMyProjects.do
Or, you can go to My Grid and click My Projects from the left nav. |
