Question about running Boinc on iMac

Hello !

I just bought an iMac (core 2 duo 2Gh) and I want to run Boinc (WCG is not available i think). As a new Mac user (3 days...), I don't know if it would be safe to run these computation intensive apps on this kind of PCs.

I'm real analphabete in the Apples' Parallel Dimension ^^! so if someone could give me the name of a good freeware software for mac that reports fan/temp/cpu load information (like Mother borad Monitor or SpeedFan on Win).

Thanks !

Re: Question about running Boinc on iMac

CoreDuoTemp is the utility your looking for.

As to crunching, IMacs should do quite nicely - mine does at least. wink

HTH.

http://www.bresink.com/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html

This is the free version. They have a heavy duty version too.

Seriously though...No worries. I have been running BOINC 100% on my Core Duo MacBook Pro 100%. It rocks, and no temp issues. I just started it up about a week ago on a 24" Imac with the upgraded Core 2 Duo T7600 processor. Again, no issues. You have a smokin' machine. Slap yourself on the back for making a great purchase decision, and get to crunchin!

Re: Question about running Boinc on iMac

Same i heard at our team forum from someone going MacPro, which is the base of my decision to give me the latest MAC Core2Duo treatment at x-mas. These machines blaze thru the WU's once WCG ported the science to native mode.

First reviews of a 15" 2.3ghz 2gb ram version indicate further improvement....whilst, saw that the current versions in the shops are being priced down, so that might be an consideration too!

ciao
