Thank You,FOLGERSPOWERED,for the feedback, but....
I note that you joined nov 17th vs the 16th .unless U R in AU/NZ, ya'll got cheated out of being the first 5,000 to join. I'm wondering if they [5,000 ppl] are Accedemia or IBM . I wish the GLOBAL statistics showed the last 5,000 besides the 1st. confused

Re: our Team [ZeroeZ] Captain can't answer this simple ?QUESTION? {:-{

I joined on the 16th due to reading an article on MSNBC.com and I am in the first 5000 and you can find me listed on page 18 of the first 5000 list and I have no affiliations with any company.

I am contributing to the The Proteome Folding Project to further the progress of Humanity in discovering cures for deseases.

As I am sure are the majority of the first 5000

Regards

THX Graham for the info/answer... guess we need to read more vs [just] Surfin' Willi-Nillie all over the whole WW3.! biggrin
Next ?question? is 'Proteome Folding Project' vs Folding.Stanford.EDU 's Folding 'Proteins' a question? or a no-Brainer [for Newbiez] ?!?!?
Like , is one [1] for SCIENTISTS and the other for Grad-students to bring $$$$ to Industry/conglomeratez or what !?!?! confused

cool UniRAC: Folding & Human Proteome

Big topic, UniRAC. You had better visit the websites involved and read their explanations of each project. My take - Folding at Stanford is studying a few proteins of known structure with a known DNA template, trying to figure out general rules for how proteins fold up into their actual final shapes. They have the low-level rules for quantum chemistry, now just how do they work in the real world with a humongous molecule. Success on their part will make it easier to calculate the shape of ANY protein, starting with its' DNA template.

The Human Proteome Folding Project is trying to figure out the shape of human protein molecules, an obvious next step that follows from the Human Genome Project, which found the DNA templates for human proteins. Molecular biologists want to know this.

As for the $$$, I am probably too sensitive when I say this has been asked ad nauseam. After all, each person who asks it is asking for the first time. OK, the WCG signs a contract with each non-profit institution (contract linked under Request for Proposals, download in PDF format) that promises to run their project for free; in return, all results are made public domain. Check the wording, decide you can do better than the IBM lawyers, and if you can convince IBM of that you will soon be rolling in $$$ as a new lawyer.

I, too, joined on the 16th, like Graham. Can't remember which website had the article I read that convinced me to join. I'm not a member of any of the companies behind the project.

I'm in the first 5,000, roughly #3169, near as I can figure. (page 64 @ 50 records per page, showing rec #s 3151-3200). I joined somewhere a bit before 11am (Pacific time) on the 16th. I wonder what time Graham joined to be listed in the first 900 members! I guess I'm at something of a disadvantage considering my time zone. smile

A LOT of people joined on the 16th... if you look at the signup dates, the people who signed up on the 16th start on the page showing record #s 351-400 (page 8 of 100). After that, user listed on the first 5,000 joined on the 16th. No way of knowing how many users beyond the first 5k signed up on the 16th and at what point the those who joined on the 17th came in, unless some project engineers care to look up the stats and post them.

Just tryin' to get ya'll riled up to help newbiez insteade of Gear-Head AMD Eletistz
I am ALMOST convinced that wcGRID.org is more worthy of the COMMON Folkz CPU contributionz tha F@H or Folding... at STANFORD or google... Sinc., RaC

Hi CompuDude

In response to your question, I joined WCG around 9:30am GMT on the 16/11/2004.

Are you still holding out while trying to find the Dream Team

By the way I saw you got a confusing apology re: Which Team To Join

Best Regards
