how 100% cpu usage to 50%??

I started worldcommunitygrid on BOINC with my laptop computer. BOINC uses 100 % of CPU, how I can set it 50 or 40 per cent? I tried to search wordcommunitygrid's "my account" to find max. CPU usage or similar, but I failed to find any. I tried some WCG-faqs, but no help. On 100 per cent CPU-fan keeps bad noise, so CPU load should be smaller.

Hi there,

with the officially supported versions of BOINC, you can Throttle (key word to search for) either by instructing BOINC not use all the cores on a multicore PC, or use a little app called Threadmaster. Been using it successfully and tuned it to 80%. There are posts on this forum 'how-to'....just use the search function.

PS u dont say which OS, but Threadmaster is sure to work on Windows 2000/XP. There's also and APP called BES, that reportedly does similar thing and works well.

With the 5.6.x BOINC clients you can set BOINC to throttle automatically. However this project does not appear to have the preference for it yet.

This is because WCG do not support alpha clients. Please use the official client, use alpha at your own risk, yaddayadda.

If you do use the alpha version, you should use a local preferences file to specify any new features.

The preference can be set manually thru the override.xml file u have to create. plz find the posts on this forum explaining. Only 5.6.5 should be used if at all, but it got bugs and BOINC warns for that on its download page, This development branch was abandoned, thus expect no support.
