Flynryan, am thinking of just swapping out the ryzen 6 core I currently have to a 16 core. Am not well versed with AMD tech but being a AM4 motherboard, the swap should work, right? This would save me some bucks not to build a complete system.

Might also want to update the motherboard to the latest bios before swapping CPU's, ideally. |

I got my emerald badge for Open Pandemics! Thank you GPU! Congrats! Those GPU's are kicking things into high gear. I'm aiming for 100 year Covid badge but should be content with getting a 50 year I guess. Takes time and lots of cores to get there since its based on run time. |

From what I have read so far it should work. The single case fan worries me though.

Looks like the motherboard won't handle it so will start buying parts. Hoping the 16 core will go on sale somewhere to get me started.

Cheers https://www.asus.com/Motherboards-Components/...IME-A320M-K/HelpDesk_CPU/ Ryzen 9 3950X (3.5GHz,105W,L3:64M,16C) ALL BIOS 4801 Doing a quick search, looks like your motherboard will support the 3950x, but not the 5950x. Its a 105 watt chip so not too crazy, but I use a dual 120mm fan cooler on the CPU to keep temps nice and low. |
