no worries at all if measuring the power draw is a pain/hassle to do. Not really a hassle. I do need to shut it down, plug in the meter, plug in the machine to the meter and reverse the process when finished. It, along with all of my other server class machines, run in an outbuilding away from the house. They all run 24/7 so I don't often shut any of those machines down. However, I too am curious about the power draw. So in the next few days I will shut down those systems one by one and see what they do draw. Cheers Edit:spelling

Mbotmiller, if you have the hard drive space, do a dual boot with Ubuntu or other Linux distro. Been contemplating that with my gaming rig running win7 pro.

Good call Bearcat - I hadn't thought of that. This Windows Defender issue may push me to explore that further. A little less convenient to have to reboot to switch between the OSes, but the hopefully rock-solidness of Linux may be worth it.Reading Sgt. Joe's reply to you, will also look at getting a Kill A Watt, want to get a real understanding about energy per point, etc. SD Surfer, I've had a lot of fun with mine over the years! There are many newer models with more features out now, but the 'P3 P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor' for ~$31 is what I have several of and it does the basics just fine: https://www.amazon.com/P3-P4400-Electricity-U...qid=1616377141&sr=8-5 |

I keep a kill-a-watt on one of my computers all the time. Its many years old, and now have noticed it is reporting the standard outlet voltage as 136-140 volts. My multimeter begs to differ saying almost a constant 120, which is the standard outlet voltage. So I'm wondering if they have components in it that degrades over time. Not sure if I can trust the watt readout if the volts are not right. It is reporting the frequency accurately at 60 hz.

Please poke multimeter to same wall socket where you get odd reading from kill-a-watt. Multimeter on voltage settings cannot read load, there fore it is blind to see only incoming voltage from cable feeding kill-a-watt. W(ork) is kind of own story.. It takes kind of three/four variable to get something sensible... https://youtu.be/Zrf3uxjWj6k [Edit 1 times, last edit by Ranarama at Mar 27, 2021 11:14:10 AM] |

We had a power outage yesterday about 04:00 CDT (10:00 UTC). It probably did not last too long, but just long enough to disable one of my USb sticks in one of my 24/7 crunchers. It turned it into a read only stick which means no results could be written to it and thus I saw a "no disk available" message. (That is another $4.99 US down the drain). Thankfully all the rest of the sticks were able to resume without problems as the systems came back up. I have rebuilt the system with the LTS version Of Linux Mint Debian. So I have a couple of pages of detached work units from that machine. It could have been worse.

I got the Kill-O-Watt meter out and tested the T620 with the dual Xeon E5-2665's. On a full load of 32 threads it takes 270 watts. It has averaged about 114,500 points per day. It costs me a little less than about $1.00 per day to run this machine. So that would be about 120,000 points per dollar. It would also be about 17,600 WCG points per kilowatt hour. It would be 2,514 boinc points per kilowatt hour. So the Intel i7-10700F is roughly about twice as efficient as my T620. It will cost me roughly about $350 per year for electricity for this machine. I did a little rounding, but the figures are close enough, precision to a couple of decimal places is unnecessary for this.
----------------------------------------I hope this is the information for which you are looking. Edit: On a per unit basis, it costs me about .47 cents. ($.0047/unit). U.S. Dollars. Cheers

Sgt. Joe, fantastic! After reading this I finally went ahead and ordered a Kill a Watt so I can calculate my own wattage per unit. This will also help me understand just how far I can push WCG in my home office without requiring a power upgrade.
