Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Weather guesscasters are saying record lows for the weekend. ugh

The weather did it again this morning, but it was only about an inch. Might be a 50F(10C) day coming soon (I hope.)
I had to take some time this past weekend and clone the drive in my Q6600. It was only booting to the operating system haphazardly so I figured I needed to to take of the situation before it completely died. I am lucky I have some drives held over from some retired systems and I was lucky enough to find one bigger than than the drive that was already there. The only fly in the ointment was there was only room for 2 SATA drives on the motherboard, one of which was the DVD drive. So I disconnected that and hooked up the second hard drive. I followed directions and it went smoother than I anticipated. I went from 143gb to 180gb, so I gained a little headroom on the new drive. I disconnected the old drive, reconnected the DVD drive and booted. It worked the first time. Now it has been booting without a problem. I am glad I did it before the old one completely died.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

This weekend may be a hit or miss. We are on the line for rain or snow. 5 inches predicted for brainard but if it dips, we could get that. Saw a funny news blurb on kstp some cop arresting old man winter, with winter spelled on his back, for disorderly conduct. was funny. Have had enough of this goofy weather. Summer may be interesting. Anyone interested in a hex tower? Have it on CL for $275. Dell 435T/9000. Came with a quad core but researched and found I could put a hex in it. Working great. Have a over size heat sink since i wasnt sure how the dell motherboard would handle it. Case doesn't close but can change the heat sink if needed. Comes with monitor and speakers.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Ok, I didn’t wish for any snow. Who’s the culprit? Seriously. This crap has to stop. Up to 12 inches possible!

Is it hyperthreaded or not ? That is a good price, but I am already maxing my electric bill out. I don't dare put another system on, even if it is a nice one.

Yeah, and if it falls at this time of year you know it will be the wet heavy kind. The last snow left a 3ft. drift on my porch roof which I had to shovel off. If I get too much snow on the north section of that roof, it will tend to melt from the bottom up, cause a huge ice dam and the water will back up under the shingles because the roof pitch on that section is quite shallow, probably about a 3 in 12. No more snow please.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Got hit pretty good. Around 5 or so inches but allot of drifting. Was on the roads last night, needed 4 wheel drive to get around. All roads around clearwater had ice, then snow on top. Looks like more snow mid week. Time to hunt down old man winter and hang that guy. This is just nuts!

I blew snow this morning, about 5in (12.5cm). Since this morning it has snowed probably another 3 in (7.5cm). However, some of the ground is warm enough that the snow in the afternoon has mostly melted on the warmer parts. However, at 7.00 PM it is still snowing a bit but tapering off thankfully. It has now cooled to about 25 F (-4C) and the snow is starting to stick again. Hopefully it stops soon.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Beautiful week with good temps. Storms coming early next week. Next Wednesday is my surgery. Will be glad when it’s over and back home.
