FlynnRyan: I just ran across an interesting article about the cost to mine Bitcoin in various countries around the world. You can find it here Cheers That's to rich for my blood/pocket book. I'll stick to WCG in hopes to cure diseases. How's it going team? Have an itch to build another dual processor cruncher. Never built a AMD system. Anyone know who is crunching with AMD EPYC processors? I think you have the itch for 64 threads. Which epyc iteration are you looking at ?Cheers

Gotta get a new MB and DDR4, and coolers too I suppose. Let us know if you pull the trigger. I tend to buy used parts off eBay and go that route. It usually goes well but sometimes there are defective parts but I’ve always been able to return them for refund. My last rig was built around a pair of used e5-2680v2 (10c/20t each) , $350 for the pair. |

OOpps. Maybe this one....
----------------------------------------https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16819113460 Am assuming you can run one on a dual socket board like you can with xeon. Still researching though.

Based on what I know about the Xeons, which are capable of running only one on a dual socket board, I presume the Epyc would also perform this way. You could start with one cpu and when you are able install the second one. If they are similar to the Xeons, you need to have the same cpu in both sockets other wise they would both run at whichever has the lower frequency. Cheers

Getting kind of tired maintaining 3 System’s. If I’m right on AMD hyperthread, it’s more efficient than intel but will have to check again. Would like to find someone with a dual setup on these chips to see what frequency they are at when running around 98% threads.

I maintain 7 systems for WCG but the 3 systems in the shed I have not touched in quite a while, at least a couple of months. So the maintenance on them is minimal. The other 4 in the house are another matter. Two are used by myself and other family members . The other two are mainly WCG only but I don't run any of the house systems 24/7. I don't like leaving anything running in the house when I am not home. Cheers
