Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Awesome crunching. The team made the top 20 teams. Way to go everyone.

Cheers

I thought in this context it meant Catalyst Control Center?

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Nice, Bearcat.

As mentioned before, the 7 series cards are on another level...now you can see it firsthand.

Since updates to software/drivers and removing CCC, I haven't had any stuck wu. Also, my video playback is smoother while crunching. :)

Hats off to Nano (and others) for providing so much support to everyone with the gpu project.

What is CCC?

Catalyst Control Center for AMD cards. DON'T install the entire package. Just the drivers and use something else to change your settings. Had plenty of issues using CCC with my 6950. Nano said not to use it due to bugs so when I installed my 7870, I just did the drivers. Happily crunching 8 GPU wu's with zero problems. Am only crunching GPU though but my scores went through the roof doing it this way. Plus, my wattage dropped by about 100 watts not using 24 threads.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Mclaver to answer your questions,

I'm running 4 or 6 on 7770's (depends on machine) and 6+ on the 7970, the last card I got.

Currently dedicating all my cpu cores to crunching gpu projects until the gpu project is finished. The problem with doing this is if the gpu workunits dry up, my machines will idle within a few hours.

The CCC I was referring to is catalyst control center. Instead using MSI afterburner.

I was wrong. Different context. I edited my previous post.

What are your crunching times on your 7770? I'm crunching 8 on my 7870 around 5:30 each give or take. Doing over 500,000 ppd. Thought about a 7770 to replace my 6950, which i'm waiting on a RMA for it.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

4-5 min running 4 at a time
6-7 min running 6 at a time

Times vary a bit depending on CPU speed and resources available. My slowest CPU is running at 3.5

Theoretically the 7770 is exactly half as fast as the 7870.

Thanks. Got a real good deal on a 3770k, mobo and ram so making this my gpu crunching rig when I get it soon (enroute) and deciding on a second card to run dual cards. Never ran with 2 cards before and don't know if i can mismatch cards or if they should be the same. Until I put it together, can run it in my other rig. Ever run 2 different types of cards in same computer?

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I'm running dual 7770's in my i7-2600k machines and they work great, each card gets 4 WU at a time to run on the 8 threads total.

Not sure how it works to run different cards together...I have run different graphics card together before but not on this project.
