Hello,
I use for a few days boinc on my linux machine and UD for windows... The windows machine is used about 75% all day long (2.4ghz 768MB ram 1GB hdd) the other the linux is en idling computer all day long so only boinc is running (1ghz 512MB ram and 1GB HDD). So and it's normal the linux one contribute about twice more to the project than windows one, but the point calculation system if I well understand give more points to windows one due to processor/memory even if it always used for my own needs... So there is no problem with that after all : I don't participate for points !! |

Hi David.
You are right. Only the points will be different between the two Operating systems. If you aren't interested in points then there isn't an issue. This thread looks at the situation more closely. Keep crunching Cheers. ozylynx ![]() |

The BOINC system allows for this because it measures CPU time, not wall clock time. Currently, there seems to be a bug in BOINC that gives a point advantage to Windows machines.
The BOINC/UD credit conversion was designed to give neither platform an advantage on average, but individual computers do tend to net more points on one or the other system. Again, this is worsened by that bug in the BOINC benchmark. The whole credit system is a millstone around our necks, but we persevere with it because it is the only basis for comparison we have. The good news is that the BOINC developers are readdressing the issue. |
