I just upgraded my Computer Associates Internet Security Suite to the latest version and now the WCG Agent will not run. I get "Error loading Grid Agent", "Error Number: 53" and "MSG: File not found UDwin_3801_2844.DLL. I tired uninstalling and reinstalling the WCG Agent and still receive the same error message. Please help.

Hello Dr. Hasan
Somebody with more experienc will be along shortly. In the meantime, when you say WCG Agent, are you meaning the UD agent downloaded from the WCG homepage? If so, this is not compatible with BOINC. Cheers. ozylynx ![]() |

Yes, I guess it is a UD device. The BOINC account number is from my profile page. The device name for my ThinkPad is KAL-RVYLIV4N5VA and has been operating since November 24, 2004 with very few problems until now.

Kal.
If you already have a BOINC account and assosciated software, my advice would be to uninstall the UD agent and attach to the project via BOINC. This has proven to be a more satisfactory experience for most users. Unfortunately I know nothing in regard to UD agent problems such as you describe. But feel certain that help will not be far away. I agree with ozylynx, BOINC is always the preferable option.
However, if you want to persevere with UD, I think I can help track down the problem. It's a bit of a no-brainer, really. Your antivirus software is interfering with the proper running of UD - possibly because it has a bug, or possibly because it naively thinks that the dynamic process loading of UD looks like viral behaviour (it isn't, obviously). The very first thing to do is open up your Internet Security Suite control panel, and see if it has logged some kind of event. Then you will have to find which particular setting needs altering to stop this happening. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with your antivirus software, or I would be able to give more precise instructions. Please ask for more help if you need it. I'm sure I can do some further research if needed. |

Hasan, Here a description of the problem on another DC forum that runs an older version of the UD Agent: I did my own little searching on this problem. It seems like this DLL is embedded somewhere inside the UD Agent itself, and is extracted into memory (or as a temporary file?) when the UD Agent is being started. From what I read, my guess is that some anti-virus software (e.g. this Kaspersky thing), are a little too aggresive or have an misconfigured virus-signature definition file, and removes (or blocks) the UDWin_3801_2814.DLL as soon as the UD Agent creates it. So.... Disconnect your PC from the network, disable your anti-virus, and try starting the UD Agent. If that works, then you know it is a conflict between your anti-virus software and the UD Agent. If not, I found these two links in a post by Orbi-tel Visual Basic Run-time Files DirectX Try to re-install from those 2 links. Perhaps it will work

No "events" were recorded by the antivirus or antispyware in the CA Internet Security Suite. I have switched over to BOINC which is running fine. Thanks for the help.

Great....the better choice.
----------------------------------------Read some weird comment elsewhere, that some of this guarding software "unpacks" passing data and puts it together again, but in that action changes it.....no records of events logged. cheers
