Disk Drive Usage

Is it possible to tell BOINC which disk drive to use and how do you do that?

Re: Disk Drive Usage

You may be able to do this with the -dir command-line option.

Re: Disk Drive Usage

Perhaps it would be simpler if you explained a little more about your setup. Windows? Is there some reason why you want to install BOINC to one drive, but use another for working?

The easiest solution is always to just install BOINC to the drive you want to use.

Re: Disk Drive Usage

I am running Windows XP and I have two 75 gig hard drives. I have let windows determine where to put the software which is "C", but since I haven't used the second drive, "D", thought it would be nice to let BOINC use a whole drive to itself.

Re: Disk Drive Usage

Generally the projects will use storage in a subdirectory to the BOINC program dir. By creating a shortcut or starting BOINC in a Run box like BOINC.exe -dir "D:\BOINCdata" u can force it to use a different location from the default. Many people usually just install BOINC to the drive they want to run it from.

To find out the commands available to start BOINC without the BOINCmgr.exe do the command BOINC -h (go to a DOS window and change to BOINC program directory). U can always start BOINCmgr.exe afterwards..... don't know how to pass the BOINC commands from BOINCmgr.exe (the GUI) to BOINC.exe (The core client that runs the science)

cheers
