Hello,
----------------------------------------I see a difference between Linux and Windows about the time execution of a task. In fact, my boinc agent execute a tasks Faah in about 5 hours and my boinc agent in 7 hours. Is it normal ? the windows agent is more optimised ? My other question is about the tasks. In fact for 2 months I have only faah tasks to work. Human protein Folding and Cancer are note dl on my agent. Is it normal ? I have choose to word on all differents projects which are manager by wcg. Thank you for your help and sorry about the big number of posts which I have posted this week. ![]() |

Hello Wilgard,
We are currently running only 2 projects: FAAH and HDC. HPF2 has been stopped while we debug it. There are only a few HDC work units produced each day, so most work units are FAAH. My Windows BOINC system normally gets about 1 HDC unit every 4 days, and runs FAAH all the rest of the time. HDC requires 750 MB RAM to run, which is 3 times the memory required by FAAH. I am not currently running Linux, so I cannot say for sure if there is a speed difference. However, I do know that the gcc compiler in Linux produces code that is much less optimized than the code produced by many Windows compilers. The reason is that much more money has been spent optimizing compilers for Windows than for Linux. Lawrence |

Every so often we get someone indicating that LINUX is running much better or much worse than Windows. Every one that I have seen turns out to just be the differences in the work units (or blocks of WUs) sent to the machines/types of machines. Neither should be significantly better or worse than the other over time.

knreed wrote a few days ago in another thread that the 'weighting' of transmitting HDC over FAAH was (presently) set at about 1 : 8, with prevalence going to those, that have HDC as primary project with FAAH as backup (if that option is selected in BOINC profile).
