Hi ozylynx Why would anyone go to such lengths to beat a system Cheers Dave Sorry if my post gave the wrong impression here. I don't understand how this is done and there is no "cheat' involved. The person to whom I was referring has an unknown number of computers in a massive Corporate or Edu., facilility, 800 is an estimate, and it suits them to "ghost" their computers identities behind data servers or such like. The work being claimed absolutely is done!! It's only the number of CPUs visible to the stats system which is innaccurate. I will assume, that as you are unaware of such things, that it isn't possible to do this type of corporate setup here. Cheers. ozylynx. |

Hi ozylynx
----------------------------------------Sorry I'm giving out the wrong vibes It's perfectly possible to run on 100's of corporate machines but no way to hide individual devices. If you sign up one account each PC that you add to your account will score against that account but another 1 will be added to your crunching account - there's no way to hide them. This is how supercrunchers like RCTCGrid can post run times of 2 years 191 days 4 hours 27 mins and not forgetting 43 seconds just yesterday with 1,520 as the device count.Word of caution though on device count. This records each time you download the software and register the device but if you rebuild your PC for example and download the agent again you add another device to your count I allegedly have 36 devices crunching away sadly really only 6 at the mo. btw I have tried to get 2 corporations to crunch for the WCG but these attempts have been scuppered by security experts who panic about anything Internet. It's worth me making the statement again just in case a megacorp person who can make a difference is reading this post... I have been Grid Computing using the UD and the Boinc client for a total of over 13 years of run time will no ill effect whatsoever on any of my PC's That's none, didly squat, zilch and zip nothing no problem at all connected to running the World Community Grid programs on my PC's We need SOHO's SME's MiniCorps and MegaCorps to join in on this project and we need you ASAP. Today is a good day to make a difference I'll shut up now but thanks ozylynx for giving me the chance to restate this Dave ![]() |

Hi Dave. ( from a fellow Northerner (( Lancashire )) now residing in Nottinghamshire )
Yes me too, sadly although I have listed 12 devices, I have only in reality 1 device, sniff sniff. This is through the fact that I was moving away from Windoze and trying all the different distros of Linux. Now I've settled on one. But I can see the concern for actual figures of returning devices versus the number of registered ones. Ohh and by the way, excellent work with the video of didactylos and the recruiting in general. I must say though that recruiting companies is hard for me too for exactly the same reason. They fear security issues. Although I know of 3 bigish companies with quite a few p.c's I cant get them to show any interest. The big stumbling block is actually the I.T guys themselves not the bosses. I get past the main man but the security problem rears its head at the systems administrator level. The guy with his head on the block if it goes wonky. Cheers for now |

Hi [L2G] Slapshot or should I say EE up
----------------------------------------![]() Thanks for your support. I do try I worked at Siemens Communications in Nottingham and Marks and Spencer in Uxbridge PC's as far as the eye could see ( at M&S all lovely IBM Laptops at the time) but just let's say no luck. You would think it would be great PR (part of an "Ethical Policy") to sign up to the WCG. One that springs to mind in the early days was EasyMobile launched by Stelios of EasyJet fame. Why (apart from the obvious IBM support) don't we have some of the biggest brand names in the World vying for first position in the Team Table? Why isn't it neck and neck between Coca Cola and Pepsi? The other groups notable by their abcence are the likes of NFCR as try as we might month after month we cannot get even our website address listed on their website as a place to go if you mean business in tackling the disease if not for todays generation then maybe for your children. Is it coming through that I'm a "bit miffed" It won't be long now until our 2nd Birthday (16th November) come on folks we are here for the long term how about joining in. With IBM's support we are no flash in the pan operation - that's just not IBM's style. Indignant I think is the word Dave ![]() |

[L2G] Slapshot just how often do you get called "Me Duck"? Is it Barm Cakes in that neck of the woods I can't remember it's been a while Too often Dave and my reply is " Does it look like I have webbed feet LOVE " cos they hate being called love. HEHEHE I still call em muffins as in chip muffin or even a butty ROFL. If you ask for a chip muffin down here they ask Blueberry or Chocolate chip mate. We are even on the edge of good gravy and I haven't had a Rag or Hollands Pudding for ages. I think they actually call em Cobs or Baps depending on which part of Nottinghamshire that you are in. Of course they mean such different things to us Northerners, baps for goodness sake. I worked at Siemens Measurements in Hollinwood Lancashire a long time ago, funny that. But never thought to try them for WCG. ![]() Oh and you guys might aswell start to call me either Slap or Jacko, either is easier than typing my Clan name, as I plan to be around the forums and recruiting a lot more now. Yep in Yorkshire even the blokes call each other Love very strange
---------------------------------------- Cobs that's the one. In Coventry they are Batches when you ask for a Batch in Nottingham they ask "How many is that then?" Can't go into the connotations of Bap's we'll get Nelsoc'ed We should get together a dictionary based just on the names for Bread Rolls around the globe at least that would keep this post firmly bumped to the top of the list on the forum Any other offers?
