Disappointed that my client was idle

I was pretty disappointed that my grid client went idle. I joined WCG about two years ago because I thought it was such a good idea. I keep my computers running, partly because I want to provide my CPU for this work.

The WCG is a 'set and forget' application and I don't check up on it very often. Of course, when I found out what the situation was, I updated my client so that any research that the WCG sponsors can utilize my clients. In the future, I hope there's a setting that makes it clear that my systems are always available for research.

Thanks and best regards,

Paul

Re: Disappointed that my client was idle

Filbert,

Any new science project is automatically added to everyone's selection for reasons as a previous project ending or like in your case, checking up very rarely. Most probably u selected not to crunch Fighting Aids @ Home (FAAH). 'While u were away', Help Defeat Cancer (HDC) was added, but that needs quite high System Requirements like RAM of 750mb minimum , thus when HPF2 was temporarily stopped, your computer probably could not process HDC.

The good news is, the program managers have indicated a few new, small memory need projects in the near future, so they will be starting to come to your computer automatically when the time is there.

hope this helps to know

ciao

To keep your clients bussy, you could setup a boinc backup project. The backup project setup only download work, if your main project has no work available.
Please look at this howto at the boinc wiki : http://boinc-wiki.ath.cx/index.php?title=BOINC_Powered_Backup_Project

A list of the different projects, including describtions, requirements and platform availablity : http://boinc-wiki.ath.cx/index.php?title=Choosing_a_BOINC_Powered_Project
