I have my agent stuck at 0%. It was stuck at 16% before, so I downloaded a new work project. I know it can take long to work over a particular spot, but my Task Manager says that my CPU load is 0% for ud_xx and wcg_xxx which means they're not even running. My device ID is 440244. The current project is the Cancer project, but I had the same problem for the AIDS project.

If you look at the bottom of the information screen, is there a message saying "agent paused" or similar?

No it says that it's working. The pane itself says that primary task is being executed. Even then, the Task Manager was showing that the CPU load for all UD related tasks were at 0%.

This has been seen before in relation to processes that were hidden (spam/virus) or at a higher priority activity, stopping UD to progress....does the CPU time counter progress at all in Taskmanager.....even seconds?

Sekerob has it. The UD application should run in place of the system idle process. If it is not running, then what is running?

There was no other application that was competing with UD. The overall CPU load itself was averaging around 5% while anything related to UD was at 0%.
----------------------------------------Additionally, the CPU load was at 100% after I started using BOINC instead of the UD app, so it seems like there aren't any applications preventing UD from working. I also tried uninstalling UD and reinstalling it, which still did not work. [Edit 1 times, last edit by louiepk at Sep 27, 2006 7:17:25 PM] |

Hello louiepk,
If your CPU is not doing anything, then it should be running the System Idle Process at 99% or 100%. This process uses very little power but it means that the CPU is always 100% occuped. The graph does not count the System Idle Process but it is at the bottom of the list under the Processes tab. If it shows 0%, then some other process is running instead. You may have a hidden malware process that is evading detection by Task Manager. Lawrence |

Hi, my CPU load is at 0%, and the System Idle is at 99% or 100%. Again, I don't think this is a case of malware since BOINC works fine.

It is conceivable that DEP is the culprit.
But stick with BOINC - it's much better, not to mention easier to troubleshoot :-) |

Hi louiepk,
Here is the post describing the DEP problem that Didactylos mentioned: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1297#6096 Could you describe your system and the security software running on it? Belarc Advisor ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2490 ) gives you a fairly complete system description. Lawrence |
