Re: smile smile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 17 smile smile

I guess an oldtimer will go first.
It just seems to me that the only people keeping this thread going was us regulars. Yet we have so many members, but only a few of us post. Now with a lot of our regulars off the map sort of speak our thread has gotten completely quiet. It hard to hear from them when they don't post. Granted I haven't been posting as much as I have in the past which I take full blame for, but where in the world is EVERYONE? You know who you are!! I know we all get busy, but at one time this team thread was so busy if you didn't read it nightly you would miss so much. When I first joined I read the team thread before I joined to see what kind of team I was coming to. I will tell you it is the very best team around, and it still is! We just have to take 5 minutes out of our daily lives to say hi and tell everyone a little of what is going on! Like we have in the past.
Congratulations SPIKEY!!!
OUTSTANDING!!
I know some are having personal family diffuclties, but many of us just don't seem to post like we used to.
Where are these people now?
Has anyone heard from them as to how there doing?
Is Graham ok?
Is Marysduby ok?
Is Dave Bell ok?
The list goes on and on!
How is everyone doing?
Anyhow that enough from me for tonight. I hope I din't step on anyone feet, but it's time we get this thread up and running again. Also we need to support our team members in current crisis.
Reading this thread may just brighten there day just a little when there down and out.
Come on folks it's time to hit the keyboard and give a yell!
Have a good night everyone. See you tomorrow.

Re: smile smile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 17 smile smile

Well, 302 folks have joined MOT at some time or another. 50 of them have "retired" or left the team. Of the 252 remaing members, 70 - 80 are actually returning results on any given day. So, we have 170-180 members that are no longer actively crunching at all.

Those posting here over time has varied a bit it seems with some core regulars. I think it is typical in a forum anywhere that a lot more folks "lurk" or read than actually post. There are other teams based on some activity or common interest that have discussions on that subject. Here, we members are the subject I think. Our international membership is our "common interest" of sorts.

Active team members will be the one you read about moving up in the team rankings. Usually, the newest members tend to move the most at first and then that slows down as you get higher in the team ranking. I've seen the names of our members moving change over time so we have had new folks come in.

If you click on the icon below that links to my blog, you'll see that I toss out my two cents worth on a bit of everything from talking southern and getting old to cosmology, politics and religon. It's all fair game here I'd say too. Join in and see how the pot stirs biggrin

Re: smile smile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 17 smile smile

I know the Graham continues to have his hands full. He makes his living selling watches and his business is located in his home. He's not only had to move his home but his business too. The problems with his new house affected both of those moves too I'm sure. The best thing we can do to show our appreciation for Graham's efforts for MOT - and David's before that too - is to keep crunching away and jump in to do what we can to keep it going.

Haven't heard from Dave lately but I hope things are going well for him. He has his hands full with his rehab rightfully should be focusing on that. It's a rather exhausting regimen. Just like being in boot camp but with polite DI's.

I know Gerald continues to crunch. At present, that's with the Christian's team and that perfectly fine of course. He is always welcome here as is anyone. His present journey is one we all will face in some form eventually yet it is one none of us would ever wish on anybody. Let's continue to keep Gerald in our thoughts and prayers.

As for our newly-engaged Spikey, I well imagine that he doesn't need to be on an airplane to be flying high right now. It should be quite a while before he comes back down to earth too. Enjoy every moment of it Spikey!

I'm sure we'll hear from folks when they can. We have a number of quiet steady crunchers on the team. It's been interesting what you notice when your checking on the team each day. As a team, we're a decent microcosm of life I'd say. We have our ups, downs, good and bad and life goes on.

WCG seems to have a way of not getting boring for very long. The differences sometimes make the chalkborad squawk but provincialism is hard to lose, no matter how hard you try. There's been quite a flame war recently (thankfully not here wink ) but I myself am realizing that something along those lines is inevitable in any "enterprise" that is global like the WCG. With the wide variety of backgrounds, cultures and viewpoints, misunderstandings are all too easy and we all need to be concious giving each other the benefit of the doubt. What was or has been is good only for learning from. What matters is what we do now and where we go from here.

Yea, I don't seem to lack for words when given the chance. On a good day, hopefully they actually say something. If I was younger, I'd probably be inclined to go now and grab a brewski and watch a tractor pull. I'm not though and my gut's big enough already biggrin In all honesty though, with the elections looming, I do feel a bit of a rant brewing. Looks like I'll be hitting the blog again in the near future......

Live long and prosper!

Re: smile smile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 17 smile smile

Thanks Dave. I've never really been able to get away from forums (in their various names) over the last 20 years. The audience is always been much like an iceberg in every case. You have a small active group that's the part "above the water", those who post only on occasion (the ice at the waterline lapped by the waves) and the "lurkers" (the vast bulk of the 'berg that's under water). We're a bit "melted" at the top right now but the 'berg will just end up floating a bit higher in time.

WCG is so geared to a "load and forget" mindset that folks usually don't even think about the forums until they have a problem or question they can't get an answer to on their own. I noticed that it was mentioned not long ago, that a pretty large number of WCG members, maybe half, had joined a team. I think you'll find that overall, probably a small portion of those are actively crunching.

We have much we can all learn from each other. When you look at all the genocide, ethnic cleansing, mass starvation, and such just within our own lifetime, society really isn't that far removed from barbarism. Amazing the extremes we're capable of, isn't it. That same society has reached for the stars, eradicated diseases, spread knowledge and the like. I for one just can't seem to quit dreaming of what we're truly capable of. And usually it starts simply by talking to one another.

(see what happens when you get old - you get all dreamy and philisophical - no wonder kids don't want to listen to us)
