Re: How about some feedback?

I've been zipping from a fine Marramiero 1999, thus the johnny's and brews distortive effects on whatever cranial content is present, does not set in. tongue
We discussed 2 progress bars......1 the overall, which like in UD agent page could do with a few decimals....2 the progress bar in the screen, that traces the blob/segment/chunk, like we have for HDC in green/blue/green/blue (for the daltonici). That segment cycling could do with a counter......as in how often did it return...and if there is a programmed limit, show that too.

There are several approaches to information disclosure, one of them is to be complete enough so the 'watchers' can understand whats going and make decision to end a WU to promote the reduction of those million and 2 posts.

Oh, and add a button for the biggest of violations....an 'abort' with double confirmation including a pop up text that explains valid reasons for an abort rather than people having to fumble the umpteen technical screens to see if the WU is catatonic or send the million and 3rd post.....but what am i going on about.....those functions are already build into that hidden BOINC intuitive text screens, we wish to hide from the graphics aficionados with that keystroke sequence Dagorath was going on about.

If not implemented, no tantrum, a missed opportunity.

Ad fundum.

PS what i see in this bar is not a 300 frames, but a 30000 frames refresh....of course, i've not been watching it every second, thus not determined if each point in the progress bar is supposed to represent a segment......could have guessed.

Re: How about some feedback?

Sekerob, the progress bar shows 10 little spheres (I called them "blobs"). One is going to light up at every multiple of 10%. The 300 frames is when the screensaver moves the whole picture to a different location on the screen (you know, to actually prevent burn-in on your screen).

Dag, given the above, and the picture below, perhaps you can figure out precisely what I'm blathering about.

Re: How about some feedback?

You should me see chuckle....... anyway the what's different in these pictures contest is, that a percent has appeared with too few decimals between Dagorath's and yours?

Blobs not synonymous to segments, there's some work left to get me happy, and that's not easy for a Royals watcher.

Re: How about some feedback?

The window should be a little bit smaller, when you maximize it, the window selects a random spot and "jumps around" the screen.
But when the window opens in the standard size, there is a little room left around the "image", so it keeps jumping up and down but only a little bit.

Re: How about some feedback?

Hi Depreins,

Didactylos's pic beside my pic suggests there is more good stuff happening behind the scenes, stuff we are not fully aware of yet. I think when they finally roll out the finished product it's going to be very good. 3 decimal places huh? Visions of sugar plums and new counters FLOP in my head. Watch for reindeer on your roof wink

Re: How about some feedback?

This is what I see and I don't see anything resembling a percent marker at the end of the progress bar. I see no blobs, no bobs, no knobs, not even a sekerob a'watchin for bob's blobs. Ye daft old bogtrotter, what are ye blatherin on aboot? Nippin' the Johnnny Walker's this evening, laddy?

Hey Dag, can you post some information about your machine or send it to support@worldcommunitygrid.org. Things I'm curious about are you opengl driver version, what type of graphics card you have...Since the BOINC graphics use device drivers I am curious if you have an older version or what type of graphics card you have that is causing it to be displayed differently. Your images should look closer to Did's.

Re: How about some feedback?

I was a couple driver updates behind, darn Hewlett Packard's auto updater hasn't been working. I don't know the following info is useful to you now but I have:

- SiS 760 integrated video
- current driver ver. 6.14.10.3720
- Win XP SP2 (32 bit)

Unfortunately I can't test the new driver because I can't pull a beta WU, I have a hunch it will work correctly so it's not a big deal for me, if you feel a need to test it then send me a WU manually or I can FTP or whatever, cue it manually and see if it looks like Did's

Re: How about some feedback?

Dag,

Being back a few versions was probably the issue. The reason you can't pull a beta workunits is because the first test is almost over. There are a few workunits still out there being worked on. There will however be another Beta test in a few days.

With your permission, can I contact you via email so that I can inform you when the latest version of Beta starts to make sure the view works properly?

Also, was that version number before you updated? And about your comments on percentages moving...since you didn't have a percentage shown before do you think that'll help?

Did,

As for more decimal places on the percentage, I will have to check on spacing and the look and feel. At this moment, there might be room for one decimal, but no promises... biggrin

Re: How about some feedback?

Yes, you can contact me at my preferred addy anytime on any matter you wish. I've just sent you email from that addy for your contact list. The addy in my sig is just a spam sewer so it's not recommended.

The previous driver was 6.14.10.3671. The version installed now is 6.14.10.3720, dated 1/9/2006.

On the decimal digits in the progress indicator, I think 3 is minimum for HPF2 units on slower machines. We will have that in the classic view when we need it. I think folks will want/need it so often they'll eventually just keep the clasic view open most of the time after the novelty of the graphics wears off. That suits my philosophy that the graphics are a waste of CPU power and should be turned off most of the time. So, yah, no more decimal places needed biggrin

Re: How about some feedback?

So, I has been couple of days without any word on how we are doing.
There has been several suggestions to improve WCG (both web and application) to make it a bit more BOINC-like.

Any progress?
