It is NOT OK for my PC processing to be redirected to cancer without my permission

Not that eliminating cancer isn't at least as important as eliminating AIDS, but I would hope to be asked before re-allocating my donated processing resources to a different cause. I'm considering uninstalling completely. If I can't rely on my PC to do only what I have authorized, it's basically been infected with a virus.

In a way they did ask for your permission and in a way, you have given them permission. Go to your MyGrid page on the website, click Device Manager and look at the profile you selected for your computer. In that profile you have several options under the heading Available Projects. I am not going to explain how to set the options to give you what you want because I assume you are intelligent enough to figure it out. If you set the options correctly you will get exactly what you want, nothing more and nothing less. It works for everybody else here and it will work for you too.

If you cannot figure out how to set the options then please come back and ask a question in a less aggressive and accusatory tone. It is not necessary to take that tone here.

Hi allisoj1 and welcome to the WCG forum. As it is, the WCG rule is, that any new project is automatically added to all members profiles. U need to opt out if u dont want to, by going to My Projects.

Lets not debate about the philosophy why.......it's been discussed in a number of threads here on the forum and can understand both sides.

one CPU thread on my machine does AIDS exclusively, the other Cancer.

happy crunching

ciao

WCG have your permission. How the system works was explained when you signed up. I understand that you don't want to worry about technicalities, but please understand that it is vital for the way the grid works that projects should be opt-out rather than opt-in.

Unlike other grid projects, WCG see projects through to completion, and move on, constantly adding new projects. If people signed up just for one project, then WCG would lose half their members when a project finished.

If you want proof that opt-in doesn't work, take a look at the woes of grid.org, where they have ended up in a right old mess.

Don't worry, opting out is dead easy. New projects are announced loudly on the website and in the forums, and if you receive the newsletter, you would be notified then. Perhaps there is still room for improvement. Constructive suggestions are always welcome.

1)you accepted a contract before installing the program biggrin

2)By default WCG, when start a new project, active it to ALL member, if you want to partecipate olny to a project, you must go in "my grid" and select what you want, you must re-select in the case that WCG add a new project wink
