Re: PC's 25 years old today

In 1992 I read the job description for a job I was applying for. (I still have it.) It stated that "all post-college experience must be with personal computers." I asked them what I was supposed to do for 5 years until somebody invented it.

Can you say "Age discrimination"?

Classic retsof

I tried to buy a ZX81 on ebay the other day just to show the Kids how far we had come.

Years ago I produced a user guide for a DOS Based app that took your requirements and blew a 2732 Eprom (yep that's right a 32K Eprom) for a telephone exchange's configuration. On one of these http://www.columbia.edu/acis/history/superbrain.html using Wordstar (Slightly easier to use than Vi laughing)

That's when cut and paste really meant getting out the prit stick and scissors biggrin

Re: PC's 25 years old today

The BBC Micro from Acorn was way out of my league. I had the 48K Spectrum with it's rubber keyboard, after the ZX81. Once again the Bernoulli tape drives, from memory I think they saved 100K, were out of my price range as was the Arc and Spark "Printer"

The Spectrum was the first computer I ever heard talk and it was was freaky

I think it said something about being able to see my lips move wink

Re: PC's 25 years old today

This is quite interesting... doesn't go back 25 years quite, but it shows the evolution of Mac, Windows and Linux GUIs from 1984 onwards:

smile Re: PC's 25 years old today

If familiar with Apple Lisa, nothing more needs saying......as so many times recounted, best in class is not always best sold.....finally now Steve J's strategy is coming to fruition....watch as Leopard is going to steel Vista's hullabaloo ....2 dogs fighting the 3rd running off with the bone....and Bill G bailing and spending 70 billion on good causes with the BM&W foundation (registration still to be amended).

cool
