http://www.scientificblogging.com/news_releas...ut_will_it_work_in_humans Cancer Cured? Granulocytes Treatment Worked 100 Percent In Mice Work But Will It Work In Humans? Submitted by News Account on 28 June 2008 - 3:07pm. Public Health Scientists at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center are about to embark on a human trial to test whether a new cancer treatment will be as effective at eradicating cancer in humans as it has proven to be in mice. The treatment will involve transfusing specific white blood cells, called granulocytes, from select donors, into patients with advanced forms of cancer. A similar treatment using white blood cells from cancer-resistant mice has previously been highly successful, curing 100 percent of lab mice afflicted with advanced malignancies. |

A similar treatment using white blood cells from cancer-resistant mice has previously been highly successful, curing 100 percent of lab mice afflicted with advanced malignancies. Yesterday it was announced that the treatment mentioned in lavaflow's post will be entering human trials soon: http://www.newswise.com/articles/view/542007/?sc=rsmn They are now looking for 22 cancer patients who have exhausted options and meet other criteria. They are also looking for several hundred healthy volunteers aged 50 or under to donate white blood cells http://www1.wfubmc.edu/LIFT . Apparently the cells are expected to work better in the summer, so they are trying to find donors fast. |

Drug for deadly prostate cancer Scientists are hailing a new drug to treat aggressive prostate cancer as potentially the most significant advance in the field for 70 years. Abiraterone could potentially treat up to 80% of patients with a deadly form of the disease resistant to currently available chemotherapy, they say. The drug works by blocking the hormones which fuel the cancer. The Institute of Cancer Research hopes a simple pill form will be available in two to three years. continued http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7502238.stm
