Does HDC Make use of a Throttle in BOINC?

With BOINC latest just started up the first HDC in the queue:

06-07-22 22:59:35|World Community Grid|Restarting task B00006_0270_YTMA10B2-4-6-3-c2_1 using hdc version 505

Looking at the Taskmanager, beyond the first 5 / 10 seconds of loading where it takes 95% of the CPU time, it drops down to between 15 / 20 % and not waivering from that, whatever activity performed. When i suspend the HDC and resume a HPF2, it just goes straight back to 95/97% where BOINC normally runs....i.e. whatever it can get. Returning to the HDC, it drops immediately back to this 15 / 20.

I use Threadmaster, so added the name mask of the science to the registry with same percent at HPF2. Switching off Threadmaster and booting, without Threadmaster makes no difference. HPF2 takes max, HDC only 15 / 20 percent.

Reading about the impending BOINC throttle, does HDC have special features that make it run slow(er).

CPU is a p4 ht 2.53Ghz with 1gb ram, not OC'd
Device ID 34409

Temporarily disconnected from the internet and disabled Firewall/Antivir in case settings in there were set incorrect, but this also made no difference.

The one HDC i ran under UD agent, just to see it working finished fine in about 3 hours, if that has any relevance....the science being essentially same, without the graphics.

I've parked HDC for the moment and resumed the next HPF2.

thx

confused Re: Does HDC Make use of a Throttle in BOINC?

As far as I know, we do not have a throttle designed to work with BOINC yet. So far my Sempron 3100+ running BOINC has only run 2 HDC units. One completed in 3 hours and 46 minutes, the other in 2 hours and 31 minutes. I looked at them in Task Manager to follow RAM usage and did not notice any slowdown. In fact, I recall seeing one vary from 98% to 99% usage.

Added: ThreadMaster limits applications to 15% by default. Sounds like something has gone wrong with your ThreadMaster environment.
CPUThresholdPct CPU load threshold per application. This is a global setting and affect all applications, unless other settings are defined in the "Application" or "Exceptions" sections.
Default: 15%, Valid range 3 - 100.

Re: Does HDC Make use of a Throttle in BOINC?

Lawrence, as eluded, i booted without Threadmaster, which is where BOINC actually jumped to the full 100% CPU loading backfill, rather than the 95% i told TM for HPF2.

I looked at "wcg_hdc_tma_5.05_windows_intelx86" which name i copy pasted from explorer, as TM is particular about name exactness and looked inside. Noticed that the version inside says 5.04.0 and is called "wcg_hdc_tma.exe", so added "wcg_hdc_tma.exe".... oops this name already existed from when i added a throttle for the UD Agent at 15%......now guess what.....

The crying detective

Added 7.23.06: In the end it came out that TM reads keys from \services\parameters and replicates them to \system\parameters. When adding the key for HDC, it erroneously went to the system parameters, which are not read for distributing the CPU time....i,e, it did default to 15%. The inside name being different had no relevance for TM.
