We have a small team going 5 members 4 of whom are on 2mbs and up adsl 1 who is on 56k modem. Team name ExEONers. The chap on 56k has returned 2 results yet has a high score i thought this is because of the time it takes him to download and upload the work units more than the time of calculation as we all seam to have 10 hour ish work units and high 180s device performance. Anyone shed some light on this.

points are based on howmuch harder you work compared to how how hard the comparison computer works.
this is from [url=http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/points.jsp[/url] Points The calculation of Points is the method World Community Grid uses to calculate your contribution to our Internet Distributed Computing projects. First, the "strength" of your participating machine(s) is calculated by measuring the following parameters of your machine against the World Community Grid Comparison Device: • CPU power • Random Access Memory (RAM) • Allocated and available hard disk storage space • Effective downsteam throughput from the World Community Grid Servers to the World Community Grid Agent The strength of the machine is then multiplied by the effective run time used to complete the work unit and successfully return the results to the World Community Grid Servers. Any parameter can overachieve the like parameter on the World Community Grid Comparison Device. However, the maximum value of your machine's overall strength will be capped at twice the value of the World Community Grid Comparison Device strength |

Upload speed is not included in the points calculation. If you look, you will see that the points awarded are linked far more closely to the length of time it takes to do the calculation than to the number of results returned. Computer speed is also taken into account, and a few other factors.
Work units are not the same size, especially when you take into account the different projects running on the grid. I note that the help pages don't explain this properly. I'll ask WCG to fix it. |

yeh ive read that.
the only machine diffrences really are • Effective downsteam throughput from the World Community Grid Servers to the World Community Grid Agent his taking much longer to download and upload leads me to believe that's why his work units get much higher points ? |

yes i realize the units arnt the same size Ive handed in enough units to spot that. I i was just wondering why his 12 hour units and my 12 hour units would work out so different. Also a little pride getting - Ive only done 2 units my work is much more valid than yours - type things but hey thats of no real consequence. Oh well i will carry on letting me comps crunch

Morning from the UK
----------------------------------------with UD it's like this http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1505 The points generated by BOINC take only CPU Speed and Actual CPU time allocated to the project. The points generated by the 2 different agents vary so wildly that you cannot easily compare them. The BOINC agent has a few extra bells and whistles for things like multiple CPU/Core Support but at the end of the day just about as much science gets done on each agent if you run them for the same length of time UD is prettier though Just enjoy your crunching and pulling each others legs in your team Great to have you onboard Dave ![]() |

Odd, before on 768kb direct router link, my network rating in UD Agent was 67. After switching to WiFi it says 100, equal the reference Intel hardware equal or Ethernet?....it actually identifies the correct WiFi hardware....... Extending from Didactylos words, it sounds like its as valuable as telling your profile to allocate 10GB diskspace, but in fact only 50mb or so is used by a crunch outside of the swapfile....UD can only do 1 at a time. Wonder, not even a single rating point?......the Diskspace does give a few to the Overall Performance rating, so much has been admitted. He's using such definitive words as 'Upload speed is not included in the points calculation'? The agent mirrors whats said on WCG, so whats wrong?
----------------------------------------My interpretations is, that WCG uses a weighted algorithm where PC performance far outstrips the other criteria.....plane and simple.

He just has a faster computer, perhaps with more memory - that's all.
There really isn't a huge difference. His work units took about 19 hours each. It will be a couple of weeks before he catches up with you. |
