Newby wondering about team membership

Hi Guys and Gals
I have just joined the crunching brigade.
There is something bothering me - do I have to join a team? What are the benefits - perhaps it is just being part of the community.
Well, I am a retired mechanical engineer and general nairdowell. I am based in the UK if that matters any.
So if anyone has any team proposals I would like to hear from you
Naggis

Hi naggis,

I think you might be starting a controversey with your very first post. Good!! I like that!!!biggrin

If remember correctly, teams are prohibited from soliciting in this particular forum. I believe soliciting, raiding other teams and such shenanigans is restricted to the Teams forum. Of course that does not stop SOME people, as you'll see. devilish

You don't have to join a team, there are lots of lone wolves here. If I were to make a recommendation I would say don't throw in with the credit whores. There, that's my devilish devilish work for the day.

Welcome to WCG!!

Re: Newby wondering about team membership

There is a matching points element to this. Your individual points are matched and given to your team. You can drop a team and rejoin another as many times as you want.

The downside is that lone wolf points are not matched, and lost forever. Too bad. There is also a place in your member profile to note your country. "Country points" are also gathered for statistics.

Yes, particular team solicitations should be made in the team area.

Usually a few teams do most of the writing. After going to ANY team page, it is possible to see a team search link. (Find a team) You can search for a team title containing a word that you may be interested in. If you still don't feel any sense of association, it is always possible to start another team.

Re: Newby wondering about team membership

Creating and building a team might be a fun project for a retired engineer. How about Team N'er Do Well Engineers? I'm just thinking that a retired engineer probably knows lots of other engineers, all fairly computer savvy, many with fast computers. Recruit as many as you can and see how many points you can rack up. The name alone might attract other engineers who pass by here. You can create your own team thread and swap stories with other engineers.

LOL

Watch out for the subliminal advertising and the pushing of the Chat Room envelope as this subject progresses.

This is going to be a fun thread to watch biggrin

As a tired old team hand Naggis I wish you all the very best.

Enjoy your crunching and don't forget to invite some more to the party

Great to have you crunching with the biggest team on the grid "Team WCG" only 200,415 team mates so far but still counting

Through the WCG I now have friends from right around the globe and you don't get that with a Supercomputer

Take care

Nite

Dave

Because of these silly names we have. Gender really isn't obvious on the Internet.
