Using UD, the workunit got the point 80% very fast (about 3h), but now it wont't continue. Since 2h no progress. On the i-screen I see no graphics. When I use snooze it just countinues to use 99% of my CPU. It seems to be blocked.By the way: the CPU-usage limit of 80% is also ignored... What can I do? Can I reset the workunit? Is there a updated software I can install? Anything else? |

To terminate the work unit, go into the Task Manager and find the 'wcg_hpf2_rosetta.exe' process. Select it and click the 'End Process' button.
There is an update and UD will download and install it automatically. |

The throttle is a rought estimate of how much CPU to use, however, if you have it set to 80%, it shouldn't be sitting at 99% for more than a few seconds. If it's longer than that, something may be wrong. When you snooze the agent, it's still consuming CPU? This definitely shouldn't be happening. Are you sure it's the Rosetta process and not the UD agent process? Could you provide your device ID so we can track down what WU this is? You can find your device ID on the 'checkbox' screen of the agent. You can either post it here or send it via email through the 'contact us' link at the bottom of any WCG page (except the forum pages). Thanks,

hmm, this no-graphics 99%-use sounds like my thread too, except that you got 80% while i never got past 0 !
----------------------------------------i posted a screen shot of my 'i' screen with no graphics on it. good to see alther on top of things. by the way, i hope you saw my screen shot and that you were able to find out which HPF-2 unit that was from the information i gave you. did you ever get any clues about the possible cause of that one? also what is the difference between 'rosetta' process and 'ud agent' process? i don't know about these things, i just know i'm running UD also. Hello halfcard,
by the way what is the difference between 'rosetta' process and 'ud agent' process? i don't know about these things, i just know i'm running UD also. Rosetta is one of the application programs. The application program is what does the real crunching and uses 99% of your CPU. The client (UD or BOINC) is the process that starts or stops the application and handles communications and the user interface. So it is the client that is supposed to keep the application from running on a laptop using battery power, for example, unless preferences override that. Lawrence |

If what Lawrence posted above makes sense (and it should) then you can see how 1 client can appear to crunch HPF2 units as well as FAAH units. When UD downloads an HPF2 unit it calls the Rosetta application to crunch that WU. When UD downloads an FAAH unit it calls the FAAH application instead.
You can also begin to appreciate how difficult it is to diagnose problems. When members report "no graphics but 30% progress" you have to stop and wonder whether the problem is in UD or BOINC or whether it's in the application that's doing the actual crunching. Lots of fun!! ![]() |

hmm, this no-graphics 99%-use sounds like my thread too, except that you got 80% while i never got past 0 ! I agree with halfcard. Mine is doing the same thing. I am running wcg_hpf2_rosetta.exe and it has been running for over 15 hours and still at 0%. No graphics are displayed, although I see that it is using about 50% of my cpu idle time, which is what I have it set to. I will try the suggestions in the thread to fix the problem. Thanks. |

I changed my profile to add FAAH, uninstalled wcgrid, reinstalled, and was able to pick up a FAAH task, so at least this workstation isn't sitting doing nothing in particular all weekend. I have a four day weekend lined up and this is my work computer having the problem, so at least it will be doing something useful. Hopefully by the end of my long weekend everything will be good again.

hmm, this no-graphics 99%-use sounds like my thread too, except that you got 80% while i never got past 0 !... next quote... hopefully most people watch their machines and would know about any lack of progress. hmmm i have boinc on my 3 computers. our 2 xp computers are watched all the time but my linux box is not connected to a monitor so i dont always notice if it stops crunching, i looked at my points and then device stats and saw a big drop .. the agent had stopped for a few days arghhh... restart boinc not help, so i then suspended and unsuspended and is up and running.. cheers |
