Boinc Updates

Does anybody know the reason why Boinc stat updates are taking so long now? It seems they are taking an awful long time to update. Mine used to update daily. I am involed with SETI@home, Einstein@Home, LHC@ home and this very worhthy research. It would be nice to see whoever is in charge going back to daily Boinc updates.

Re: Boinc Updates

Ronald,

Which BOINC stat updates are taking so long? They are updated every 6 hours just like the stats on the website. You can see these files here:

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/stats/

The file timestamps show that they were updated 3.5 hours ago.

Re: Boinc Updates

Are you talking the value on the web or the value in the agent? Hit the 'update' button on the 'projects' tab and it should pull the latest cumulatives across for BOINC points....which in reality could be updated up to the minute.....someone mentioned that the BOINC stats at BOINCstats have a life of their own.....they seem to run a wee bit behind the WCG held stats, but not day(s).

Re: Boinc Updates

When I check on the results Statis on the World Community Grid Site it shows three results awaiting validation.
I have clicked on the update section two or three times a day but there is no change as it still says awaiting validation. As I stated this is very unusual because like you folks said, they are updated often which had been my experience.
I had moved recently and my stats tanked big time because I was offline for a full month so I was in hopes I could get those stats back up there.
Thanks kevin for the input, smile

Re: Boinc Updates

The BOINC deadline and reissue policy was altered a while ago. It enabled WCG to execute 20-25% more research for the same amount of effort. The only downside is "pending validation" results take a little longer to resolve.

Give it a few days and your daily statistics will look normal again.

Re: Boinc Updates

WCG sends out 3 copies of each work unit (WU), 1 copy to each of 3 different crunchers. In other words, when you get a WU to crunch, 2 other crunchers get the same WU. After all 3 crunchers have returned the results, WCG compares the 3 results to see if they match. That's how they check to see if the results are accurate. If the 3 results match then they have what's called "the quorum of 3" and then the result is declared valid. If only 2 results match then the WU gets sent to a 4th cruncher. When the 4th result returns it is compared with the others to see if the quorum of 3 can be achieved. If not then a 5th WU is sent out.

The reason your results are taking a while to validate is that 1 or both of the other crunchers is slow in returning their result. Or perhaps the WU had to be sent to a 4th cruncher because 1 of the first 3 returned an error or just didn't match. Hitting the update button does not cause the results to be validated.

I usually average 10 results pending. I am running on 3 boxes. AMD 64 3800, P4 2.8 and pII 1ghz. I figure that it all averages out in the long run. If you have a lot of results pending, that means you have graduated to "ninja cruncher" status, and your work unnits are being completed before everybody elses, and they are waiting for the guy with the pentium pro (with mmx) box to finish crunching.

When I click the link, it shows this: (my WU is red)

Workunit Name Status

Even though my stats are low at first, eventually it becomes like a line at the dmv, with the wu's I finished yestersday or daybefore going into my credits and the ones I am finishing now getting in line. No big deal right?

Here, I will spot ya 500 points till payday. biggrin
