global stats

Cranking down cpu usage looks like global stats have taken a hit.

Woke up this morning, and bonc was just sitting there with two wu at 100% (dual core amd). I tried doing an update fr new work but it wouldnt go. I exited boinc, and restarted it. It only downloaded on wu. So here I am chugging along on one cpu.

Does this happen often? EDIT: it downloaded more work after a few minutes. I guess I am too impatient. /EDIT

I decided to fire up wcg and set affinity to run on cpu 0 while boinc runs on cpu 1. Had to apply the workaround for the 60% cpu usage problem. At leat this way I am at 100%.

3 more days until I hit one year of run time.... biggrin

Re: global stats

As far as I'm aware the reduction of CPU usage to 60% only applies to the UD agent at the moment - if your using Boinc then that isn't the problem.

OK Mom... Sorry. I wont do it again till you arent looking... Searching the forums is sooo last week man! Get with the program! The "in" thing this week is to post the same thing that has already been covered in multiple other threads. biggrin

anybody have stats on what percentage of boxes out there run UD?

Just curious...

When do I get to be "advanced cruncher"? biggrin

Totals:
Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) (Rank) 0:362:17:09:56 (#8,706)
Points Generated (Rank) 256,505 (#7,458)

Re: global stats

If you search the forums (ha ha!) you will find a post from knreed (WCG tech) from about 1 month ago that said approx. 80% of the work is done by UD agents, about 20% by BOINC. Sorry, I looked for that post but can't find it right now but I'm positive the numbers are right, not pulling your leg this time biggrin

Send in 50 posts and you get your Advanced Cruncher badge, 200 posts and you get Senior Cruncher. Has nothing to do with what ya know, just how much ya like to blabber on about nothing.

cool Re: global stats

So I could just log onto the site, never actually download the software, spend all day blabbering in the forumes, and eventually be a "senior cruncher"? Kinda cheezy, no?
wink

I looked on top500.org, and it says that the best supercomputer in the world puts out 280.6 TFLOPS

http://www.boincstats.com/

Total Active
Users 725,748 265,821
Hosts 1,169,636 411,169
Teams 48,630 24,449
Countries 232 218

Total Credit 12,729,313,294
Average floating point operations per second 361.010 TeraFLOPS

All of the boinc clients in the world put out more almost 100 TFLOPs more power than the worlds fastest supercomputer. But, it also says that there are only 8000 active boing agents working on WCG... :(

That sucks.

Too bad everybody is looking for aliens or neutron stars or some other silly project.

It works for me and mom devilish

Remember they said inventing flying machines was a waste of time too. Later they said building a moon vehicle was impossible and stupid.

Physicists heave run up against a bit of a stone wall. There are phenomena they simply cannot explain completely and too many questions that do not have adequate answers. If we could answer some of those questions we might be able to build pollution free cold fusion nuclear reactors or make solar panels cheaper and more powerful. Many people think the answers to those questions are out there amongst the stars. By observing the interaction of space-time, matter and energy in neutron stars and other stellar phenomena we might find answers to a lot of important questions. Or we might find an advanced race of aliens who will tell us what we want to know. Or maybe they'll just eat us.

You see, Harvey just finished his laughing

Now on the unexplained phenomena, there have been postulations of 8 / 10 dimensions / parallel universes.....could well be, 'they' are already living in the same space as you are....
