A couple of hours ago Boinc downloaded a FAAH WU with a deadline of 29.06.06 (06.29.06 for you US folks

Am I right to assume that this is a case of my PC being selected to receive a WU to urgently help complete a quorum - and will the suspended WU just re-start where it left off without problems when this one finishes ![]() |

Yes, you have been deemed a Fast and Reliable System and have been given the honor of wrapping up that quorum quickly, for flag and country but no extra points.
----------------------------------------I was honored thusly a few times in the past week or so. The preempted one will resume when the rush job is complete. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 26, 2006 8:29:38 AM] |

The beauty of BOINC, sort of..... it should finish the current WU, then proceed to do those, that the datamanagers are eager to close. With the HPF2 data checkpoints being so far apart, you loose with this method probably 15 minutes (my machine) to 1 hour (slow-er machine) of crunching. Adywebb's log indicates this just happened to him...the suspension of a HPF2 in favour of a FAAH.
----------------------------------------Fortunately BOINC 5.6 (posted a copy of a June 15 newsflash @ Boinc's a few days ago in one of the threads here ) will wait for the data checkpoint before rescheduling....coming up soon..... ![]()

Oh well, I'm sure I can live with 15 minutes loss of crunching every now and then

With BOINC 5.4.9 they introduced the global_prefs_override.xml file which allows having some of your preferences in your BOINC directory. I like that because it's easier to edit preferences and it allows more profiles. Perhaps in 5.6 we'll see the ability to keep all the preferences on your disk rather than just a subset.
