How difficult is it to create "Mirror" image protiens?
I believe that Prions are a mirror image of a normal protein but when the prion interacts with the unmirrored normal protein it changes it. I wonder if this approach could be used on HIV envelope proteins to destabilize the envelope and "Kill?" it. Just a thought. |

The PrP proteins that prions change are highly specialized. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prion This mechanism cannot work on most proteins. (At least, that is how it seems at our current state of knowledge.)

Are prions not the cause of CJD/BSE/MCD or as they call it here "Mukka Pazza"? The cause, very probable the feeding of scrapies suffering sheep proteins to herbivors, or simply put animal residuals to grass eaters..... more 'g'reativeness of mankind!

they are not mirror images ... this is incorrect.
they are different fold, but not mirror images... one being a globule compact sphere ant the other participating in a bigger structure called a beta-superhelix or a fibril. |
