Ooops, no the I Mips should be 3399

A bit lower than mine, even though we have the same processor. I am curious, what kind of ram/mobo are you running? Are you OC'ing at all? I think the X2 3800+ runs at 2000MHz native, and mine is OCd to 2200MHz.

Weird.
----------------------------------------Have you thought about ocing it? It is easy from the BIOS CPU -> JumperFree -> OC +20%. Or download Asus AI Booster and set the External frequency to 220 MHz. Careful though, be sure you save your open documents before you tinker too much. I have had to manually reset my system about 20 times playing with the OC Settings. You will know because everything freezes... Dont bother waiting, it is dead, just do a hard reset. [edit] I guess by looking at your score/stats you already knew that... Doh![/edit] I have found that my CPU runs at 54c with the lame-o stock cpu fan that comes with the processor with BOINC running 24x7 at 2200MHz.. Oh yeah, if you use the Quiet Fan feature that comes with AI Booster, your PC runs totally silent... It is a little eerie, esp when you put it next to my P4. It sounds like a lear jet trying to tow a fire truck.... It looks like I am pushing 100ish more whetstone and +1235 Dhrystone (whatever the heck that means)... Cheers! -- This post has been edited for inappropriate language - nelsoc [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 26, 2006 1:01:12 PM] |

Not bothered about OCing it to be honest - it does everything I need just fine as it is - but thanks for the info
As you say my benchmark is a bit lower with a near identical system despite your OCing - still it doesn't make much difference in reality - the others in my quorums rarely match or exceed my claim anyway. Just checked onother of my X2 3800's and its score is 1915/3554 which at least is a bit closer to yours, the smaller difference here could probably be put down to your OCing. |

Hi everyone,
Here's the stats on my PowerMac G5 Quad: Processor Type: PowerPC 970 (G5) Processor Speed: 2.5 GHZ Number of CPUs: 4 RAM: 4.5 GB Whetstones: 1398 double precision MIPS per CPU Dhrystones: 4563 integer MIPS per CPU I'm a little disappointed in my machine's performance after seeing the double precision performance of the AMD processors that have been posted. Makes me wonder if the Mac BOINC client has been optimized for the G5??? |

Hi komick,
There have been no optimisations for ANY processor. This applies to BOINC as well as the science applications that do the actual crunching. It's sad that so much processing power sits idle on projects that have real benefits and is used primarily for something as frivolous as gaming. There are problems associated with optimising grid software but they could be overcome if there were enough volunteers to write the necessary code. |

Hehehe... I was correct in thinking the GUI client I was running wasn't optimized for the G5. Here's me stats now:

Impressive. How'd you do that? Roll your own?
