Thanks Marcelle. I'm just havin' fun cxrunching along.
In the near future I'm gonna lose a couple machines to the church. It seems as though theirs are getting rather old and in need of replacement. That will give me a nice winter project...time to build another dual core, or maybe if Intel gets in gear, a quad core? I would like to join in and say THANKS to all our new members, and all those who faithfully keep going. The team has shown remarkable perserverance...if you look at the number of crunchers versus points, I must say that this team works very hard. |

Sorry to hear you may have to pull out some PCs. I had to pull out a few machines from home too.
I take care of the church's PCs & network. I've got theirs (with permission) running for me too. Most of the staff are now wanting laptops now. I totally understand why but I've found that they turn off (read: close the lid) when they are done using them. So, the point return is much less even though they are quite a bit more powerful than the desktop they are replacing. Oh well, so goes technology. You'll probably get a quad core from AMD before Intel. You have to like those Intel CoreDuos. |

Hello, Christians. I'm one of you, too, although I'm not on your team. I probably would have joined yours if I had found it before I formed my own team -- the HomeBrewers. Anyway, I was wondering what sort of recruitment methods any of you are using. I would expect that genuinely religious people, generally prone to be compassionate and charitable, would be most willing to join the WCG. And if a church leader could be recruited, I would expect that leader to be able to bring along a large percentage of his flock. Just my thoughts.
Heck, I just visited your website -- Christianity.com -- and while I found it interesting and will probably return when I have more time, I looked all over the place on your home page, in your forums, under ministries including your Crosswalk Directory, and I can't find a single mention of the World Community Grid and the excellent charitable work that we are doing. I know it's really none of my business, but I was surprised by that. I've been working my tail off on my non-profit personal websites -- velek.com and 2plus2is4.com -- so I'm surprised you don't have at least a simple link to the WCG on yours. I'd love to see you add one when you get a chance; we are all working for the same goal, regardless of what team we are on. Cheers. Bill Velek |

Hi Bill
----------------------------------------Christianity.com isn't really the team site it's just a good starting place to go. I have a link on my site www.myonlineworship.org which so far (according to the spread the word feature I have running on wcgwiki.org) has delivered 46 visitors to the WCG. You are right Christians would appear to be the type that the WCG would appeal to, it does to me as well you know . We just run into all the same issues as any other group in trying to encourage the growth on the WCG. The Sunday meeting would also appear to be a good place to promote the WCG - the problem here is that there are so many other things to promote which are of an equal value and some more so like that Saviour Chap from 2000 years ago he tends to get a few more mentions than the grid on a Sunday Morning. So as ever it's just a few close computer type friends who attend church that join in our "fun" I've recruited at least one to our crunching crew and he and his family are out in Thailand spreading the Word word. Bill it's not for the lack of trying I assure you. Dave ![]() |
