Hello !
I'd just like to know whether there will be a BOINC screensaver (or graphics) with the next updates of faah and rosetta or not ? It would be nice to have one, because the UD agent already has some interessant graphics to look at ! Duanra. |

Graphics will be added eventually. We haven't been given a firm timeframe yet, though.

So do I, I am having a couple of guests on Thursday and at least one of them I had hoped to turn into a cruncher. So I feel tempted to suspend the running of BOINC and download the UD-agent again. I do not expect a screen saver to be in place on thursday - but please hurry.

Guys, you realise, that the moving screensaver as known from UD agent and the graph inside the agent when on screen, takes significant CPU time? Any 3D screensaver does for a matter of fact! Of course WCG welcomes any crunching addition, as A Crunch is better than no crunch.
----------------------------------------BOINC is much more efficient than UD, up to 2x more points as it has greater thru-put, plus able to use multiple CPU cores on the dual and quads, allowing parallel processing of several WU's at the same time. So by all means, re-install the UD agent, show the pretty picture and do an up-sell to BOINC 5.4.9, with all its great features like caching, allowing continuation if a WU is finished, but website of WCG not reachable for new work. However you do it, get them over here

Yes I'm fully aware of that . But in order to convince people who may be intelligent enough but knows very little or nothing about protein chemistry or biophysics like a lawyer or as in the case of my guests language teachers to become crunchers - an informing and flashing screen saver is a valuable and hopefully convincing "marketing tool". And I am also fully conscious about that when I'm crunching "with a heavy step on the accelerator" - the computer screen is black. Everything at its proper time.

Woody, this was mainly directed at Duanra, the starter of this thread and the many others, non-posting readers......it's called: sharing knowledge. As always, should you or anyone else already know then it becomes "To whom it may concern"....lawyer speak
---------------------------------------- PS, not wanting to bore you or anyone else in the know.....UD and BOINC are very well behaved...they coexist outstandingly, even on a single core CPU....each gets 50% of the idle time as both run at equal lowest priority....meaning whilst running your demo no need to suspend BOINC....you can sell both in a package deal
