Just have BOINC bundled and download a list and description of the available projects after installation then the users just clicks on the ones he wants to support. Let the user decide what his primary interest would be if anything. Smart designs flow much easier and work more efficiency.
No single distributed computing project alone is going to achieve the status and publicity needed. Maybe, a collaborative effort amongst all the projects involved? Even if our interests lie in different areas there is a common goal. Public advertising would cost money and need to be well thought out before hand to insure efficiency and success. Maybe, Art Bell on Coast to Coast, the discovery channel, science newspapers/magazines,universities or other places people of interest might be found? I suppose there would need to be some collaborative effort and donations made? Seti.org asks for donations from the public. I'm sure $10 a month wouldn't put much a dent in most peoples wallets. I'm just throwing my random thoughts in on it. I think once the distributed computing scene has demonstrated formidable power and excellence then it will flow naturally and do great..until then it seems to be a shoe-string effort with an unsure future. Nothing great has ever proven easy or succeeded on the first few attemps tho...maybe even laughed at or failed miserably. That should be a reason to try harder and feel more pride on what we get done. |

The first thing to start with to get more people working on it would be to take care of the old ones. I seriously consider stopping the support for this project, and the reason is the feedback.
The webpage fightaidsathome... is still at 15%.. the same as it was in November. Why cant they give us a simple feedback of the projevt, and how we are doing..... I have 4 computers in my home working for it, and I will soon stop, if I dont see any progress. :-( |

That's 15% of Phase 2. If you read the newsletter, you will see Phase 1a and 1b were completed in excellent form.

Yupp, I can see that... but what i find not to interesting is that it has been 15% at stage 2 now, for the last 8 MONTHS.... So... Not a single percent progress for 8 months? That is why i wrote my last post... It would be great to see some progress a little more often that every year or two... What about adding some feedback/progress into the client software? or automatic update of that 15% thing on the web page.. BTW the 15% image looks like garbage in my webbrowser.. (firefox under linux) it's only a lot of dots with the text below..

You are mistaken, we only started Phase 2 very recently. Please read the newsletter.

i THINK THE MOST EASY WAY FOR PUBLICITY WOULD BE SOME PROFESIONALY DESIGNED BANNERS, OFICIALLY POSTED BY WCG WEBSITE WITH HTML CODE, FOR EVRY ORGANIZATION UNIVERSITY INDIVIDUAL ETC TO POST ON THERE WEBSITES FORUMS, ETC Maybe we can put the ads in all caps so they attract attention? Just messing with ya. Good idea though. I still like my idea of turning it into a computer virus or a worm the next time a vulnerability for windows is released. Imagine, a virus that cures another virus. Poetic, no? Especially considering Bill Gates's intense desire to rid the world of this disease. Once CNN got ahold of that story, it would go global in 8 minutes, and we could have phase II done in a week. Lots of people would get patched and have the UD agent removed, but millions more wouldnt, and that would leave millions of PCs, crunching away, deep into the night.... |

I suppose were suppose to adhere to ethical policies in this world. And money really does make the most sense most of the time. Getting sued would be bad for business!
Then the project would permeantly be over! |
