It's Microsoft's reboot your PC day... againbiggrin

Just a little reminder to download the latest security fixes from Microsoft again for our Windows Powered Crunching Buddies.

Keep that OS in tip top shape and keep on crunching

Re: It's Microsoft's reboot your PC day... againbiggrin

Just the other day I had to defrag my hard drive again. I noticed things were getting a little sluggish, but I had defragged only recently - but it doesn't take long when you're a heavy user like myself.

In the end, I reformatted one of my drives, and put a nice big fixed size page file on it.

So, while Microsoft are doing their thing, today might be a good day for a bit of a tune-up.

Hi D

MS have sent me Win2K3 R2 in my action pack subscription. You mentioned it in a recent thread I had re my server and the ill fitting memory stick wink

Should I upgrade? Any idea's of the benefits of R2? Or is it just a rolled up security pack release?

This and many more questions

Dave

I don't think that was me. Personally, though, I would make plans to migrate at some convenient time, if only because of the benefit of rolled up security updates. A clean system is a happy system :-)

I could use a bigger hard drive on there but I think I wait.

MS's site on R2 doesn't point to a compelling reason to upgrade just yet it's all distributed management and support for Unix interworking (It's like turning an oil tanker wink) I have none of the problems above

I might just wait for Vista (patience is a virtue) and go straight to 64 bit.

My Motto really should be "If it isn't baroque, don't fix it" blushing

That's a good motto. Not that I have anything against Baroque, of course. But my favourite styles are Georgian and Perpendicular Gothic. (But not mixed! Not even in the same city, ideally. London's big enough for both, but that's an exception.)

Done and done! Looks like the sign-up improvements are live, too.

I'm all excited. Have to ask Illiad for a bit of front page shazam! again.

Re: It's Microsoft's reboot your PC day... againbiggrin

I wonder how many people who downloaded those Microsoft critical patches have "right click" freezes? My guess is quite a few ... devilish

KB908531's VerCLSID.exe causes freeze

Removed only KB908531 via Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs/Select

Google searches about this
Microsoft Help Group

Most of these problems *seem* to happen with people who have certain HP printers. Like me. I just uninstalled KB908531 and everything is back to normal. wink
