Hello UBT - Halifax--lad,
bbover3 has tentatively penciled in a statistics revamp for the third quarter of this year. knreed has probably read this thread, but it would be a good idea to make a detailed presentation of your idea (I'm still a bit hazy on the details) in the 'Suggestions' forum, so he can print it out and add it to the binder before the statistics design phase. Well I didn't know I was speaking another language.
All BOINC projects have the option for a team founder to chose which country the team is from, WCG doesn't do this so when the XML stats are exported to stats sites they aren't given country codes to show where the team originates from. See this example again, this is how BOINCstats should look if the option to assign a country to a team existed http://www.boincstats.com/stats/team_stats.php?pr=cce&st=0&to=100#17 but this is how it looks http://www.boincstats.com/stats/team_stats.php?pr=wcg&st=100&to=100#101 Notice the lack of country flags to the right ON BOINC projects when someone gets to the create team page they type in all the details they want, Team Name, Description, ETC. WCG seems to miss out the standard page where you have a drop down box for country, that's what I am asking for. Do you understand what I mean yet? |

Sounds clear to me. You are saying that he Team Founder / Captain should have the option of selecting (or not selecting) a national designation for a team. He should be able to change this, since a team might start out with members from one country but change into an international group. Right now, all our teams are international groups.

Lawrence Yep thats it, when I look at Stats sites its always hard trying to work out who is who as they are all classed as international |

I received an email today asking why I hadn't done any work units for a while....
If you stopped contributing due to some unresolved technical problem, then we encourage you to contact us by replying to this email so that we can help resolve any problems you were experiencing. Additionally, you can find answers to many questions in the help section of our website or in the forums. Well, this (thread) is one of the main reasons our team is so low in the world rankings. Our principle aim is to be the top team in the UK. As WCG only list teams as 'International' we have very little idea where we are and consequently have little inclination to promote the project which is a pity as the aims of the project are admirable and worth promoting. I'm sure that other teams have the same aims and do less work on this project for the same reason. I think the idea behind having only International teams was to promote the fact that we live in the 'World' and the work we do would be for the benefit of the 'World' and we shouldn't be nationalistic. Sorry, but it's our nature to be competitive and if we can't see team progress in a national sense then we tend to lose interest! I'm led to believe it's a fairly simple thing to do - effectively a tick in a box. This simple thing, I am absolutely certain, will have a huge increase in WUs done and ... well - that's about it really what more do you want! Tick in a box = huge increase in work done - bit of a no-brainer really! |

My team flies under it's national flag in the BOINCstats Gobal combined. Don't ask me how it's done, but it is achieved because of some roll-up feature.

Sorry, Mikeejones - I don't buy it. We have some great national teams here, as well as the many international teams.
It comes down to how much effort you want to put into promoting the team. After all, the main goal is just to get people crunching for WCG - the staff aren't bothered what team people choose. And why set your sights so low? Aim to be the biggest and best team in the WORLD, and the other accolades will just be dust under your wheels. |

The captain of the team had the choice of what affiliation to choose when he set it up. I am the captain of some small teams in other projects. I will go over to one as time permits and see whether I can change it. I set them to "international", because I did not care who joined. overall statistics are "team based", "member based", and "country based".
