I know we all get lazy. I'm just as guilty even tho i'm a bit of computer geek and should know.
To clean your computer you can either use a $7 compressed can of toxic flammable air available at your local retailer or you can use the cheaper method of a vacuum cleaner. Now, I have heard the stories of vacuum cleaners sucking out parts, causing static build up of electricity but honestly i have never had a problem and think it is a marketing scam for the most part. Just be careful not to bump capacitors and components on the motherboard...as to say be careful. Anyway, this was the first time i dusted since i built this machine 9 months ago. The temperature was getting a bit high at 52c and now is running consistently at 37c...now that is about 15c difference! My computer sounds alot nicer and more quiet. Todays higher performance and hotter running computers require more clean environments..especially running the CPU at 100%. Dust can shorter component life significantly, waste alot of energy and give you sloppy, poor, less reliable performance. If your going to use compressed air then i HIGHLY recommend doing it outdoors for several reasons to include your safety from the harmful chemicals used....and don't choke on the dust balls :) |

Within any closed loop system we suffer from "Entropy". Randomness and chaos try to take over and energy is lost in the form of heat and some other means. Every system tries to reach the lowest stable, balanced state and the forces within our technology is not balanced therefore falls apart with time.
Therefore, any healthy system will require upkeep or maintenance. I don't see why we don't have a "beginners 101 guide" or something to running the grid. Cover the basis of firewalls, anti-virus, overclocking(as bad), dusting your computer and just proper good maintance to insure the integretity of the results being returned if for no other reason. Just my random, momentary thought on it tho. |
