Hello,
----------------------------------------I just installed the BOINC client. When I attached to a project I get a workunit assigned. When the workunit starts executing I get the following error over and over again until I manually stop it: 2006-03-28 15:32:36 [World Community Grid] Restarting result faah0297_d055n276_x1hpv_00_1 using faah version 509 2006-03-28 15:32:37 [World Community Grid] Result faah0297_d055n276_x1hpv_00_1 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file 2006-03-28 15:32:37 [World Community Grid] If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. 2006-03-28 15:32:37 [---] request_reschedule_cpus: process exited 2006-03-28 15:32:37 [World Community Grid] Restarting result faah0297_d055n276_x1hpv_00_1 using faah version 509 2006-03-28 15:32:38 [World Community Grid] Result faah0297_d055n276_x1hpv_00_1 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file 2006-03-28 15:32:38 [World Community Grid] If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. 2006-03-28 15:32:38 [---] request_reschedule_cpus: process exited When I detached and reset the project, I get re-assigned the same unit and the same error happens over and over again. I even tried to suspend and abort the unit to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks... [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 28, 2006 8:45:10 PM] |

How much memory (real and virtual do you have)?

Hi,
----------------------------------------The PC has 256MB of real memory and 0 bytes virtual - per the benchmark test. I have another question: if I abort a unit, should I not get a different one? I keep getting the same over and over. Thanks... [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 28, 2006 9:38:22 PM] |

BTW, I just completely deleted/re-installed the BOINC client and am getting the same unit and same error.

Reading the system requirements at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=minimumreq I see that they specify 'virtual memory enabled' without listing any specific size. Since FightAIDS@Home uses nearly 300 MB of virtual memory, I would want more than 512 MB of virtual memory. Probably 1 GB is more than you would ever use, but if you have the disk space, why not?
Click on Start - Settings - Control Panel - System - Advanced - (Performance) Settings - (Performance Options) Advanced and you can check your virtual memory and make any desired changes. Lawrence |

Yes, you should get a different unit. Did the unit abort properly? If it did, it will appear in your results status as a failed unit.
But, as has been said, the main problem is lack of virtual memory. What platform are you running on? Windows is barely going to run with 256 MB physical memory and no page file. Linux? |

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the feedback. I am using KNOPPIX to run the Boinc agent on 2 PCs. The first PC is fine, the second one has the problem. I guess I have to figure out how to increase the virtual memory usage. Thanks... |

The 'exited with zero status and no finished file' notice can normally be ignored. In practically all cases the client will sort it out on it's own with no action from the participant.
The most common causes are related to the system time clock and not anything directly related to BOINC or WCG. |
