What exactly is a Community Advisor?
On what basis are the powers granted, and for what reasons are they taken away? And, if I may digress a little, why can't moderation be done without altering the meaning of posts? Nelsoc does a great job, but when he changes one word to another, we have censorship of the worst kind: invisible. I for one, would be quite happy to see edits clearly marked, and deleted words just blanked out thus: ****. The ability by normal users to edit and delete posts can lead to serious abuse, when unscrupulous people can rewrite history in their favour. Surely I am not alone in wanting transparency? |

It's a fair question D
----------------------------------------under rules it says this What is a Community Advisor? World Community Grid has a great group of Community Advisors ready to help answer any question you might have. A Community Advisor is a member who has been identified by World Community Grid as someone who has provided significant assistance to other members in the forums. The title "Community Advisor" has been given to distinguish them in the forums. The role of the Community Advisors is to provide guidance to and answer questions for other World Community Grid members, and to bring any issues or problems that arise in the forums to the attention of the World Community Grid support team. Community Advisors also have the ability to post in the Start Here: Community-Maintained FAQs. Community Advisors are not employees of World Community Grid but have volunteered to help in this role and also have to follow the forum rules. I gained my stripes at the beginning of the project putting in way too many hours for my own good helping out the very newbies and trying to get some feedback from IBM. (I campaigned for shorter work units and extracting this forum from being searched by Google!!) This has been achieved now and I'm sure you are aware I've stepped down a notch or 2. My recent interest was in the allocation of BOINC Points I tried but I think I lost that particular battle but happily not the war ![]() Points and Millennia (2 n's) have been "my thing" see thread 1505. I enjoyed measuring the SuperComputer power we were putting together together sadly this fact has been clouded by the intro of BOINC I'm currently looking forward to seeing us break 50,000 PC's on for 24 hours a day everyday - we are V close ![]() Lawrence and RT are my current hero's they have almost made the rest of us redundant as there is rarely a question that they haven't already answered by the time I spot them ![]() As you know my day started at 4am and I have done a 400 mile round trip today + the 3 hour reason for said trip - So I'm a bit short of Oomph ![]() ![]() In the early days me. Dave Bell and Lawrence (pre our Community Advisor days) used to post 3 simultaneous replies to the same question that's how we first got to know each other. We also have a hotline forum to the crew at IBM so we try to represent the feelings of the WCG members back to IBM. We also write FAQ's when they are needed in the Community-Maintained FAQs Oh the glamour ![]() Hope this helps Dave ![]() |

p.s. a sure sign of a penchant for being a Community Advisor is the suffering of Jet Lag without ever leaving your seat
----------------------------------------For a while at the beginning of the project on the 16th November 2004 I was running on EST (maybe even CST) while living in GMT/UTC land I can't recommend highly enough getting 8 hours sleep a night ![]() talking of which ![]() Night all Dave ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at Mar 28, 2006 8:10:15 PM] |
