possible delayed start ?

Hello,
because the UD is starting when my Win are going up - is it somehow possible to delay the start of using the CPU? On start of session is starting also other application (you know - I have full systray ;) )..

Can I set it somehow?

Re: possible delayed start ?

Not easily.

If you are comfortable with scripting and such things, you could write a small stub process to launch your background processes slowly.

You could migrate to BOINC, and install it as a service. This would mean WCG would load first, while you are still at the login screen.

You could move the icon for World Community Grid out of your Start-> Programs-> Startup folder to your desktop and start it manually by double clicking it when it is ready.

Otherwise, you could start it using Start-> Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> Scheduled Tasks. There you could start the program (ud.exe in the folder for World Community Grid) and specify to start it when the system is idle and also not to stop it when it is not idle (since the agent runs at lowest cpu priority anyway). This would have the effect of delaying its start until all of your other system tray and other activities are finished.

Re: possible delayed start ?

Hi minkisak!

There is a small prog called WheresJames Startup Manager that you may find to be of help. Once installed, you simple set it to allow/disallow the startup of all progs displayed, and it is simple to use.

You can download it here:

http://www.wheresjames.com/index.php?page=startupmgr

It will not allow you to delay the UD startup, but you can adjust it so that UD will not start up until after Windows has loaded, and without you having to remove UD from Startup.

Re: possible delayed start ?

Thanks for all your suggestions.. As you probably know, I ment something like argument (or setting) which will have the following effect: UD starts, but will throttle after X seconds (in the same way as some Unix daemons do)..
But, as said - scripting can do it also... biggrin

thanks again for your time and interrest.
