I have a top of the line AMD X2 dual core system but within the last week it has been behaving strangely and running slow at times. System memory usage is consistently at .99GB of RAM out of 2 gigs within a few hours after reboot.
My friend also has a P4 2.8ghz and her computer has been very super slow lately. It took her 2 minutes to load internet explorer! I'm unsure at this point of what is causing it....we are both running Fightaids@home. This was the only thing i could think was the problem. I have WinXP Pro and she is using Win2k Pro. |

One of my computers slowed down. I ran a scan with Microsoft Antispyware and removed a program, then rebooted. Back to normal speed!
The 'Useful Utilities' thread at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2490 lists some anti-virus and anti-spyware programs. |

Did a clean reformat on her computer. Got rid of Norton System Works...that program almost acts like a virus and bogs the system to a grinding hault! I'm never using it. She insists on re-installing it everytime i get her computer fixed then it will get really slow and messed up again until it is almost unsable. Norton "Go-Back" is a horrible use of resources.
Come to find out that some program has also disabled the "Remote procedure call(rpc) in the services control panel...what an endless loop of a nightmare trying to fix that. Can't update windows, can't run antivirus, can't re-enable rpc, safe mode doesn't fix, can't do anything! Got Zone Alarm firewall up now and norton corporate antivirus. I'll have to get to my place and fix my computer...find out what the problem is. |
