Thread: Do I get points on WCG site when using BOINC? |

I've been looking through the forums and I want to make sure I understand this. I've been using the UD client downloaded from www.worldcommunitygrid.org and now I'm going to use the BOINC client because it will make better use of my AMD dual core processor.
From what I've been able to gather, doing work units with this client can be more efficient, but it make take longer for the points to be 'awarded' to you and, by extension, your team. I just wanted to confirm, if I use the BOINC client to do work units for WCG, will I see them reflected in my personal & team stats here on the WCG site? (rather than say, on the BOINC tracking page) Thanks |

Yes, BOINC points are explained at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=linpointscalc , where they are called LINUX points. Once your BOINC popints are validated and awarded, they are converted to WCG points and added to your old UD points. So you will have BOINC points and WCG points, depending on which stat page you look at.

If I'm already a member of a WCG team, can I use BOINC, or do I have to quit the WCG team and then join a BOINC team? (The reason for this question is my inability to see the BOINC info on My Grid - Profile.)

Hi rnsimmons As long as you are signed into the Forums ypu can click the link below to download the BOINC Client http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewDownload.do Your Registeration Key will appear in the link below http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewThankYouBoincWin.do When asked for the Project name just enter: www.worldcommunitygrid.org Then supply the Registration Key from the linlk above If you do not have a Dual Processor or Dual Core Machine, you may want to uninstall UD Manager on completion of the install of the BOINC Manager I hope this helps [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 20, 2006 7:11:53 PM] |
