Aborted Work Units - Update

We have identified 117 protein folding work units which were flawed and caused the agent to abort early. The 117 work units have been removed. The next time your grid agent communicates with the grid server, it should be receiving good work units. The software is being modified to catch these types of protein folding work units and we will deploy the software after we test it. We'll be posting this note into the one of the "Official Mesages" forums soon.

Will it ever communicate with the server if it can't finish the work unit, or do we all have to do something to make it go get a new unit?

i tried something out of desperation that actually made the agent communicate with the server while a BAD work unit was aborting - if you're still 'stuck' feel free to try this .............

right click on the wcg icon in the tray and exit from the application
open 'explorer'
open c: drive
open 'programs' folder
open 'world community grid' folder
find the file with the following type of title
wu_12345.exe obviously the number sequence will be different as that is the unit currently working on your pc (mine was 21380)
DELETE THIS FILE (don't be afraid, it's a dud anyway :-)
relaunch wcg, the file name is Ud.exe and has the 'V' icon
in the agent window, you'll receive a message indicating the download as it progresses
it worked for me! .............i'm at 95% of my first unit ..........COOL!
good luck, bonnie

First of all, there are no BAD work units. There was a bug in the client software which was not sending results back for non-convergant work units. This has been fixed and is now deployed.

Please see this post in the Known Issues forum: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=645

Remember that non-convergant work units are normal though not common. You may occassionaly process one. The behavior when processing these WUs will be EXACTLY the same with the latest fix as with the prior code except that the results you've done will be transmitted instead of lost.
