Unfortunately the grid slows down my tired old PC so I've got to go. When you're up and running on OS X I'll be back.
So, how do I disable or quit, I can't seem to find the info anywhere?? |

I am not sure why you think that this is causing your system to slow down unless you are very constrained on memory and paging is the problem. In any event, bring up task manager and stop UD.EXE to shut down the agent and then bring up the Control Panel and select Add or Remove programs, find World Community Grid, select it and then press the remove button.

Hi
What are the specs of your system? If you do have to forsake this project I hope you find an alternative project to suit. There are plenty of choices. Is it the Rosettas or FAAH that your rig struggles with? I think FAAH has double te ram requirements of Rosetta so perhaps running just Rosetta (if not already doing so) could alleviate the problem. Anyway, if you go...hope you come back soon with a shiny new hot rod system Best wishes Vaio. |

Hi dhsdca:
I run WCG on my windows ME system and since it is Windows ME the system gets tempermental pretty quickly and often if I try to push it. I have come up with a system that works for me and should for you too, if you would like to try it. Click on the "Start" button in the lower left corner, then click on "Run", then in the box that says "Open" type: msconfig and then click "Ok". This will bring up the "System Configuration Utility". In that dialog box click on the "Startup" tab. Uncheck anything that has "World Community Grid" in it and click on "Ok". Reboot your computer for the new settings to take effect. What this does it stop the WCG software from starting automatically when you start your computer. When you installed the software it should have put a shortcut on your desktop that you can click on to start the program manually. When I am not actively using my computer i.e. not surfing, using Word, etc. I click on the desktop icon and the WCG program starts and picks up where it left off from the last time I ran it. If I want to start surfing or doing some other task I right click on the WCG icon in the lower right task bar and choose exit. This closes the WCG program and frees up some resources for other uses. I usually leave my computer on all weekend and once or twice all night during the week. This way when I not using my computer it's crunching away and when I need the use of it I'm not experiencing slow response or system crashes. ![]() |
