It's been a long day ![]() Man, you aint joking. I've trawled through the bowels of - you know what more times today than a surgeon performing mass heart by-pass ops digs into chests. Hope it'll be worth it in the end. Graham. I've got that blasted Skype thing working at last, I think. It locked up my system 3 times, 'til I kicked it in the..... shins. ![]() |

Hi Graham --
Yes -- another great day for the team! Unfortunately, we finally had to give up our longtime held 4th position in the team rankings. Two of the 656 teams from IBM (with total membership of 15,002) are now above us in the points rankings. There are about 20 IBM teams among the top 50. Makes one wonder who is the real IBM -- LOL. Looking at the top 5 teams we see the following: Slashdot Users .... 3595 Members ...... 206,330,046 Points (392,826 Yesterday) Easynews ............ 2384 Members ..... 171,757,432 Points (2,793,044 Yesterday) IBM Corporation .... 836 Members ....... 87,276,446 Points (272,100 Yesterday) IBM .................... 1884 Members ....... 80,555,315 Points (584,260 Yesterday) MyOnlineTeam ...... 243 Members ....... 80,356,531 Points (311,163 Yesterday) MyOnlineTeam is the smallest of the top 5, but we are still even outperforming the IBM Corporation team which, at 836 members, is more than three times our size! Our team performance shows the dedication that each of our members has and every one of us can take pride in that performance. Time for me to get to bed for the night here. Our members over in Australia, Hong Kong and China are already well into their days and you folks across the pond in the UK and the rest of Europe will be getting up soon. It's comforting to know that the sun always shines on MyOnlineTeam. Good night all. |

Let’s hope that we get another cruncher or two joining us before the end of the month – for a small team we certainly punch above our weight!
I was on the phone to my ISP the other day, for a problem with a bit of their software. When I commented that my download speed seemed off, he said you might want to reset your modem, as it reported over 30 days continuous use... Made me smile as I realised that I really have burning the old PC of late (and my son's, whenever I can get him away from it). Having said that, was the IT guy right? Something to do with the IP address allocation? I'll have to remember to power down occasionally. By the way - I think this is an old debate - but aren't our results showing as higher than 5th place? I am just looking at the stats box as I post this. I would have thought that the results were the real key to any research. Have a lovely day and weekend (good luck Wardstar!), |

Sheesh - my flags and stats box have disappeared. Guess their servers are down.
I am sure I saw '3' next to the results. This reminds me – am I a bandwidth thief? I was reading about it on a site. Presumably it only happens if I link to a graphic (on someone else’s site) directly? By uploading images to a storage server (with permission) I am OK? I know we use Grahams excellent logos with his blessing and kind support. |

Morning Matt
----------------------------------------Have a look back through the MOT thread's the reason why we are truely 5th is in there Yeah we are 3rd for results (which are the important bit) 4th for total run time but 5th for total computational effort. Points measure our combined CPU muscles. I know it's painful to accept but we are 5th now Look on the bright side we are 5th out of 9,158 teams which puts us inside the top 0.055% of teams which we have achieved with just 243 team members You are providing the bandwidth if you upload the graphic to a server provided for you. In this case you are not relying on someone elses bandwidth bill. Athough ADSL links are always on sometimes the registration server gets rebooted at the other end of your link and it forgets who you are. This may have been the issue. Your ISP will tell you to reboot the modem/router because this is the easiest way that they would know how to definitely re-establish your link. A month is a pretty long time in ADSL Land Dave ![]() |

Afternoon everyone.
I know I'm late posting today, but a guy's entitled to a late start now and then. Y-A-W-N! ![]() Well, it's another typical day on my patch - grey, cold and miserable. But that's something no one can say about the members of MOT because the sun always shines on us somewhere in the world. Up and at 'em guys. Let's go take back that 4th place. Like it says in my sig 'New members welcome.' ![]() |
