My computer will be down for about 6 weeks. Once the current task completes, is there a way for me to delay the next task from downloading until after I'm prepared for it to execute?

There is no way to keep the next work unit from arriving unless you are able to reduce your machine specs below the minimum required. This would be more trouble than it is worth. It is actually ok if you receive the work unit and don't process it for a long time. The servers automatically send each of the work units to more than one device and resend them to yet more devices if a sufficient number do not respond. The main reason for having multiple machines process the same work unit is to ensure the results match and are therefore correct. A few machines experience hardware or software glitches which can produce errant computations. Using redundant computing in this way we get excellent reliability in our answers and also handle devices that become inactive.

If you are using BOINC the easiet way of preventing your machine from downloading new work is to hit the no new work button in BOINC. Go to the projects tag and you will find the button on the left handside. Regards Rayburner |
