Thats too hot mate... You need a better heat sink fan and/or some better case cooling.
I got an Athlon 3200xp oc'ed to 2.36GHZ, With a Gigabyte 3D Pro Cooler and it never gets hotter than 48 degrees. Whats your cooling set up at the mo? ![]() |

Check your heatsink on your CPU to see if it is clogged with dust. If so, blow out the dust and make sure all of the fins are exposed to the air. Also, you might consider getting a computer case with better airflow. I use a Cooler Master Centurion 5 case where the front of it is all flow through metal mesh with an 80mm intake fan and a 120mm exhaust fan. On Ebay this case costs about $45 U.S. including shipping in thre U.S. This case, combined with a large and clean CPU heatsink and CPU fan, has my P4 3.2ghz running at about 40C at 100% CPU load.

It depends on whether it is a desktop or laptop. Desktops have more room in there to add things. This AMD64 4000+ desktop has an extra chassis fan now. They are cheap, only $5-$10. They come in different sizes, so check the distance between mounting holes on your cabinet, if you have space for one. (I'm not talking about the fan in the power supply.) CPU temp is now 48 degrees C and motherboard temp is 37 degrees C.
----------------------------------------Since it is plugged into the "chassis 1" socket on the motherboard, the fan monitor will also report on the RPM of that one in addition to the RPM of the CPU fan. There are some alternate solutions for laptops: elevate so that cooling can get in, open drawers so cooling can get in, a "cooling pack" that has some extra external cooling.

Anton...........I am surprised your rig is even running given the temp you report.
Where are you getting those temp readings from???? Should be nearer the 40c mark. Check temps in bios and report back, and let us know what monitoring software you are using in windows. Be a good idea to check various other things. Is the heatsink fitted correctly? Is the fan working? What case cooling do you have. With a good cooler I had my xp2500+ overclocked to 2.3 ghz at under 40c full load.....so you certainly need to check the cooling arrangements. Did you use thermal paste when fitting the heatsink? Anyway, give your rig a good checking and report back. |

Come to think of it... my AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (Barton) is running at 65 C at full load, and 50 at idle... yes, all the dust is gone, and I have no money to buy a better cooling system, so I have resorted to throttling at 50%... lol. Any ideas other than sticking my computer in a refridgerator?

Well, if where you are it is cold outside you could move your computer outside or into a cold garage. I have had frineds that have done this and it has helped. They just got some long cables and were still able to work indoors. That may not cost very much. You could also get a better heat sink and fan (with the fan being an 80mm fan) for about $15 U.S. or less. That would help. A 120mm exhaust fan would make some difference (about $15 U.S.). You could also remove the cover on your computer case for better air flow.

Only thing is, this is my main computer, which I also use for 3D Gaming, and 3D Rendering... basically my personal comp. Garage is out of the option.
