I'm not entirely sure if this is a problem or part of the process.
----------------------------------------Basically what happens is a unit is about for far complete then I check later (say 20%) and the percentage is lower (say 5% than when I checked previously - but the number of units submitted hasn't increased. So far it has submitted a unit but this has occured a few times now. Thanks, Edit: I've just seen the message "Unable to process task data. Backing off" Edit 2: I followed this guide http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2344 Then it attempted to recieve 0 out of 0 bytes from the server, backed off, downloaded another unit and is working on that. Does that sound right? [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 23, 2005 1:55:06 AM] |

Hello Brown Bear,
This sounds like some posts from other members who have discovered that for some reason their computers will occasionally glitch. But as you say, nothing is certain. If you want to explore this possibility, there are some diagnostic programs listed in the 'Useful Utilities' thread at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2490 such as Memtest86. mycrofth |

Dear Brown Bear:
I think your machine is potentially having some sort of hardware problem. Please try running a cpu and memory tester each overnight to see if they find something. As mentioned in the prior post, here is a link to such tools. If these tools don't find anything wrong, you might also try running a complete virus scan and make certain all of your device drivers and windows software are up-to-date with the latest revisions. |

Thanks for the replies.
I've been running the grid agent for about 24 hours now after changing the folder options so that it wasn't read only. I'm not sure if it has backed off from any files since I haven't caught it doing so. Is there a log to check? I'll run the tests tonight. Thanks again. |

Thanks for the info. Setting the installation folder to read only would certainly cause a problem. I would still run the hardware tests, just to make certain there are no additional problems. Thanks.

I ran hot CPU lat night and that finished without any errors. I've also run mem test quite recently and that didn't find anything to be concerned about. So far it's looking like the problem is fixed - thanks for the help.
